HTC Droid Incredible Can't flash or boot recovery

I unlocked the device, and now when I try to flash or boot a recovery image, it says:

Sending 'recovery' <9038 KB> ... OKAY [ 1.180s ]
writing 'recovery' ... FAILED (remote: Image update error)

I'm not really sure what to do here, and I've tried a few different recoveries.

are you s-off or just bootloader unlocked through the htc dev site? how are you trying to flash the recovery, adb or directly from the sd card(looks like adb to me)? if so try putting the revovery directly on the SD card and flashing.
