I think that your best bet is to follow the steps in this thread, starting with this 15th post: http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/556826-stuck-in-boot-up-screen.html#post4475687

You may want to read through them first before proceeding.

It's many steps. It's possible that the phone is unrecoverable, but that procedure is probably your best bet.

Ask questions if you have them!

I was reading an old thread (sometime in 2010) of yours this morning where you got an Eris running again over on XDA with similar issues and I was hoping for an answer but that was over my head. ;) :D

I was told today that they tried to unlock the bootloader from htcdev.com & that it failed part way threw & it was sruck like this from that point. with the error code (110) so she said.

Maybe you will have better luck. You definitely don't have the 1.51.0000 bootloader running on the phone at the moment.

instead of installing the entire sdk,you can use this download:
miniadb_v1031.zip

if you need drivers, use these: http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe

simply run the .exe file to install the drivers.

before you try all the steps in doogalds link, try a few simple steps:

extract the miniadb download, and move the unzipped folder to the root of your c drive(might change the name to "miniadb" just to simplify things)

open a cmd window. on windows 7,click the start bubble, then type cmd in the search box. this should bring up a small, black command window.

change to the miniadb directory with this command:
cd c:\miniadb

now,plug in the phone. enter:
fastboot devices

if you get your serial number back, then enter:
fastboot oem resetRUUflag

then
fastboot reboot-bootloader

that should get you out of ruu mode. if the phone was working, and booting normally prior to attempting htcdev unlock, maybe now it will boot. :)

if not,we will need to procede with the other directions to unlock, install a recovery, flash the files, and run an ruu.

hi it seems to pull up the serial just fine but when i do the next step i get this message.

c:\miniadb>fastboot oem resetRUUflag

umm... not sure what that command is ;)

try this one:
fastboot reboot-bootloader

i see youve done it above... so are we to asume youre still stuck in ruu mode?

if so,we will have to procede with installing the htcdev hboot and unlocking it.

i did that also.

Your ROM is not the latest version.

right... as doogald described,we will need to install the htcdev hboot and unlock it.

go to htcdev.com,register an account, begin the unlock instructions. choose eris from the pull down menu. the next screen will have a download link for 2.41.605.6.

download, and run the .exe utility as adminstrator, with the phone plugged in,in its current state. if you have troubles, ill post some directions for a slightly different way to install the new hboot.

ok... try and install the 1.51 hboot like this:

1)extract "rom.zip" from the 2.41.605.6 RUU utility like this:
the .exe utilities can be finicky,so if you have trouble getting it to run, you can extract "rom.zip" in the following manner:
-start the utility
-check the "i understand" box to move on to the next screen
-hide the utility temporarily out of site
-search your C drive for "rom.zip". you will find it in a temporary location(it will be in a different spot each time you run the utility)
-open the folder location, and transfer rom.zip to a safe location on your PC.
-unhide and cancel the utility, youre done with it.
-rom.zip can be renamed to PxxxIMG and flashed in hboot, from a FAT32 sd card

2)after finding rom.zip, transfer it to your miniadb folder.

3)open a cmd window, plug in the phone, change to miniadb directory as you have done above

4)flash rom.zip with these commands:
fastboot erase cache

fastboot oem rebootRUU

fastboot flash zip rom.zip

you should see a quick green statusbar on the phone as it flashes. the line may not go all the way across the phone screen, this is ok.

5)once its done,try
fastboot reboot-bootloader

and hopefully this time it will take you to the 1.51 hboot

now try and reboot the phone with fastboot reboot

*if the commands above give you any trouble, try removing the phones battery for a few seconds, plug back in,and just flash the zip with
fastboot flash zip rom.zip
(assuming the phone is still only powering on into ruu mode)

Hi I did exactly what you said to do to get that rom.zip, I even manually search each file on my netbook & was totally unable to find it any where. I am running Windows 7 starter ed. If that matters. Please help.

hmm,not sure why you could not find it. you can download it from here: PB00IMG-eris-1.51.0000-hboot.zip

in order to use it youll have to rename it,or modify the directions above to the name of this file. on second thot, lets just modify the directions so you dont have to change the name:

so heres what you will do:
1)download PB00IMG-eris-1.51.0000-hboot.zip

2)transfer PB00IMG-eris-1.51.0000-hboot.zip to your miniadb folder.

3)open a cmd window, plug in the phone, change to miniadb directory as you have done above

4)flash rom.zip with these commands:
fastboot erase cache

fastboot oem rebootRUU

fastboot flash zip PB00IMG-eris-1.51.0000-hboot.zip

you should see a quick green statusbar on the phone as it flashes. the line may not go all the way across the phone screen, this is ok.

5)once its done,try
fastboot reboot-bootloader

and hopefully this time it will take you to the 1.51 hboot

now try and reboot the phone with fastboot reboot

*if the commands above give you any trouble, try removing the phones battery for a few seconds, plug back in,and just flash the zip with
fastboot flash zip PB00IMG-eris-1.51.0000-hboot.zip
(assuming the phone is still only powering on into ruu mode)

ok thank you i am no longer stuck on that black screen, i now only have the 3 skaters & it wont go any farther then that. what do i do now? but i am happy not to see that black screen any more.

Good! Sounds like we are making progress. Now that you have the htcdev hboot,we will need to unlock it,and attempt To install a custom recovery. Refer to doogalds link in the second post.

alright i have downloaded all the zip files that post said to & i have read & re-read that post many times. i am finding it a bit confusing or maybe over whelming or something that makes it where i am confused. please help.
