(I'm sure these specs can be modified by software)

The Sensation has an 8 MP sensor, the 3vo is 5 MP (x2) - so all we know is different.

If it's indeed true that the audio is still using that AMR codec as shown on the Sensation spec page then that's what to expect for the 3vo and I find that a huge let-down.

Early reports on the vid recording on the Sensation ain't great.

As Spicoli would say - No fps, no audio, no dice. :(

Especially confusing because one of the Sensation promos claims it records audio in stereo - so I'm confused.
 
I have no technical data to back this up. But wouldn't you think it's rather odd for HTC to make a sub-par camera/audio recording setup in the E3D? They are selling it with the 3D photo and video recording capabilities highlighted extensively. It would be very odd for them to drop the ball in this department.

This is my theory: They designed the Sensation/E3D's guts all at the same time. Except where the two models differ. They probably designed the E3D's camera first. Then, when they were designing the Sensation's camera, they probably just put something that fit easily and was cheap to keep price down.

/shrug Like I said, it's a theory, but it's based on the assumption that HTC isn't completely idiotic by advertising the E3D's recording capability when they put crap hardware in it for recording. I guess we'll find out on the 22nd.

Except that the same thing could be said for HTC/Sprint advertising the Evo 4G's media recording/playback heavily, and we all know that they saddled the Evo 4G with an absolutely terrible audio codec and subpar video codec support (720p at MPEG-4 for the love of god, and H.264 only at 480p).

It has nothing to do with "idiocy" and everything to do with the fact that people will make most of their purchasing decision based on an advertised spec. Consumers aren't going to have the sophistication of distinguishing between audio and video bitrates, codecs, etc.

Unfortunately, it seems that Android mfrs, in the race to the bottom to distinguish between a lot of phones that do similar things, exploits the "spec" problem the most. Apple on the other hand knows that its customers don't care about specs as much, and just want things to work. So, we have an iPhone 4 that takes excellent 720p video encoded in x264, and had a 5MP camera (even though competitors like the Evo were sporting "impressive" 8MP cameras) that simply took better photos than the competition.
 
Fair enough. I've never been disappointed in my phone's photo and video capabilities, but I don't demand nearly as much as you guys do.
 
Also, if your data are correct in the side panel and you're sporting a DX, that little beastie takes some mighty fine photos from what I've seen in the DX thread for that.

I'm ok with the Evo photos but really only vid occasionally at 480p so I can have at least H.264 and a bit better quality.
 
My phone's 2 megapixel camera has worked fine for the past 4 years, and I'm not really a phone camera user, so I don't think a "crappy" sensor on the 3vo will disappoint me. :)
 
So is the 1080p 2d camera ability still there?The engadget review showed the max being 720p, but the This Is My Next review says otherwise.

Technically it should be able to record 1080p at some level. But no, the FCC schematic document was not much of a help as it didn't list the sensor model. We probably won't know specifically which model until release day reverse engineering and tear downs.

Even the Evo 4G's sensor can technically record at 1080p. The Evo 4G features Omnivision's BSI OV8810 or OV8812 which lists 1080p @ at 30FPS. Its just once you put the entire "recipe" together that creates the phone you lose some of the "flavor" from each of the combining components.

There must be a reason that they are not taking full advantage of the sensor. I'm guessing software problems (Android OS, Sense, Codecs, frame rate?) or some other hardware limitation (power control, processing, battery?). It must not be economical to the phone's environment sub-system to overdrive it just to record par or less than stellar 1080p. I have an archaic knowledge of these super technical things, maybe someone with a well versed knowledge can enlighten us better?

If they don't include it as an option then there is less chance of the general public being mad about its poor performance. Where as, we who studied the fact sheets and preliminary data feel hugely let down since we feel like we were "promised" something that is not being delivered. I would imagine it could be added via OTA, but sadly I have my doubts that it will happen (kind of like how we seemingly know 720p video recording for the Evo 4G could be better and fixed via OTA, yet it never is).

I've been tooling around the net for hours and just realized that the Sensation can record at 1080p. I realize the hardware is slightly different (less RAM, different Sensor), but if the Sensation can do it then there should be little to no reason why the Evo 3D can't...

Their system allows you to compare any phones you want. I just picked 4 phones which I thought were worth comparing. They don't have the S2. Had they included it in the actual review, I'd imagine they would have formatted them properly.
 
It looks like the 1080p video recording mode in 2D is not a reality on the Sprint HTC EVO 3D. I have read a few reviews and articles and they state that the maximum recording resolution is only 720p. Here is one: No 1080p Video Recording for HTC EVO 3D .

That is sort of a shame. I wonder if they will enable it in a future firmware update.
 
Hey i was reading the cnet review and they said well (bonnie the asian girl) i think that her name.. that the phone has 4gb of internal memory but what about this!! they said that you can only use 1gb for apps!! :confused::mad: im really out here, some body help!!
