Hi, i downloaded handcent sms for my text messaging app. does anyone know if its possible to switch the messaging app on the lock screen to handcent?

Which phone do you have? Putting Widgets on the lock screen is part of the launcher that came with the phone, unless you are running an app like WidgetLocker.
 
i have the evo 3d. i know when i press the top button to unlock it, there are 4 icons at the bottom of the screen for a shortcut. I'm just wondering if you can change those or if they're there for good.
 
If you mean the icons above the launchbar (the curved bar with the Phone button in the middle)

Simply long press (touch and hold for 2 seconds or longer) and drag them to the trash can that pops up at the bottom. To put another icon there, find the app in the app drawer and long-press it, it will drop it on your home screen. If you don't lift your finger, you can drag it to anywhere there is open space.
 
i have the evo 3d not the 4g. i used to have that. on the 3d it has a ring that you pull up. there are four icons that are above the ring when you originally get the phone. the icons above the ring for phone, mail, camera, and messages. for a quick access type of strategy, you can simply pull these icons down to the ring and it will instantly open the app. i want to know how to change the messaging icon to a different sms app.

the screen is still locked after pressing the top button, so long pressing these icons does nothing.
