Root htc evo 4g recovery update will not work

i am unlocked and had a root for a while but took it off and did my nandriod back up and went back to stock. i want to reroot and i cant get into the recovery i keep getting the phone with the triangle and exclamation point when i try to go into recovery. i tried doing the pc36IMG update to fix but i keep getting main version is older. and i can not figure this out. here is the picture of the error message and my htc evo 4g info.
thank you in advance and if im in the wrong section please point me to the right place. i cant figure this out

Hello and welcome geforceftw!!
I see your device is unlocked, therefore you need not do the HTCDev unlock.
I think all you need to do is install a custom recovery.

First, go here and click on the word "show" under HTCdev method.
Then skip step 1 and go to step 2 "how to get recovery"
There are 3 ways to install the recovery and I would suggest the PC36IMG method.:)

By the way, what PC36IMG file were you trying to install via bootloader??

under the pc36img method i used the first one here it is Dev-Host - PC36IMG.zip - The Ultimate Free File Hosting / File Sharing Service

Just be sure to only have one PC36IMG file on your sd card. Otherwise it will not work.
And rename it correctly...you'll see the instructions on that link :)

That file you have linked appears to be a recovery image, but I don't know which one that is.


Edit--just saw your post....awesome that it worked...now you need to flash the superuser.zip in step 3 I believe.

Edit again: you can thank Ocnbrze for those files and the instructions. He taught me what I know and that's how I rooted my Evo:D

ok glad you were able to get recovery working again.....just curious as to why you unrooted? there really is no need to unroot a phone, unless you tried every troubleshooting fix that did not work.

now i'm guess you did a ruu to get back to stock. what this does is that it replaces the current rom, kernel, and custom recovery back to stock. the red triangle means that you have a stock recovery and do not have access to it.

so like mikey instructed you to do, you just needed to get a custom recovery back.

next time, if you have any issues then please by all means post here in AF and we can set you straight. there is no need to unroot or even use a ruu unless it is necessary.
