Help HTC EVO 4G Wifi Issues

Lurker
The wifi on my HTC Evo works properly when it is plugged in to charge, but when it is not charging, the wifi automatically turns itself on and off in a cycle about every 20 seconds.
I've been wondering what's the cause of this.
By the way I am running Android 2.3.3 and I have tried factory reset, rebooting, new ROM's, battery pulls, and the problem still persists.
Any help is appreciated!

hi... on amd off wifi is the way it is suppose to b to save ur battery it works that way on some roms u can adjust the cycles..but all is good u have nothing wrong to my knowledge.

My Evo's 4G has never worked, ever, from day one. That is what you get for living in Phoenix, AZ where Sprint does not offer 4G. There are only a few million people here, why would they want to get 4G out here?

Sprint, you hear me? I'm talking to you Sprint.

oh man, i am having the same issue. I have been trying also to reset all settings and tried everything i can think of with my router, its a netgear, noticed there have been issues with blenkin also. i can connect almost anywhere else but at home, so it must be something with our individual routers at home. I have changed the security settings even to none, and still am unable to connect. i really am lost, and thats terrible because we have such powerful phones and can't even use them at home! what do we do!?!?!?!

I'm at my wits end with this same issue. I have talked to sprint, they have no idea what I'm talking about, it's like I'm speaking a different language. My phone without fail turns wifi off and then back on and reconnects about every minute or so, I guess I should really time it to see if it's exactly the same duration each time. To whoever said that is normal for battery consumption, you tell that to the Real Soccer game that I've been trying to download 500 megabytes for over a week now! It does seem like it's cyclical, it's not random in duration I think, it happens like clockwork and will not stop. It doesn't matter what wifi network I'm connected to. I have a completely stock phone, have ATK (which by the way for that stickied post, doesn't cause ANY app to malfunction that I am aware of) installed, not set to auto-kill, and I don't go killing off every little thing running in the background ((Still don't know why there are constantly 3 instances of maps running though, when I don't have anything set to auto locate nor am I using apps that would even require maps to be running, sorry off topic)). I cannot take this any more. I'm a pretty fart smeller when it comes to this stuff and can't makes heads or tails of it. I have tried different routers, different security types, no security, plugged in, not plugged in (charger)... HELP ME PLEASE!!!! And to top it all off, my fiance has the EVO as well, older model, subtle differences between the two OS's, and her's maintains connection, all the time... This phone is seriously about to take a trip to the wall at about as fast as I can throw it.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!
try doing s soft reset by just powering off the phone wait 30 secs and the power it back on. if that does not work then you might want to try a factory reset and see if that helps. Just remember that this will erase and data including contacts and texts will get deleted.

I am having this same problem on my Evo. The difference is mine shows the WiFi being constantly connected, however, my phone will not do anything related to data. No internet, no Pandora, no Facebook. Nothing. Not even the Google Play Store. Might try the Restore, and see where it goes.

Okay, tried doing the Factory Reset, with no help at all. WiFi still shows it's on and connected full strength... but phone goes absolutely no place. Kind of annoyed with my Evo now, but no upgrade in my near future. Hope I can fix this issue, and hopefully solve some others problems with the WiFi too.

Is your EVO rooted?
