Help HTC EVO email sync problem after update

dsmtcevo

Lurker
Until about a week ago, if I cleared out my pop email server, all emails on my HTC EVO (Sprint 4G) would clear out at the next sync.

Now for some reason, emails no longer clear from my EVO when my pop email server is empty, unless I delete them from the EVO manually.

I am not sure, but I think the problem started after a system update that the phone downloaded and installed on 12/23.

Any ideas how to fix this?

I've got the same problem that started right after manually installing the latest update a week ago.

Anyone know of a way to get the emails to clear after they've been downloaded to a pc - like they used to?

Thanx...

I don't have this problem, but I use K-9 instead of the stock mail program. What I would try, if I were you, is deleting your existing Mail accounts on the phone and re-create them.

I had the same problem with my EVO after the update. It would not sync with my 2003 mail server on incoming. Out bound and contacts were fine. Deleting the account from the phone and reloaded the original settings and it seems to be back to normal again.

jimdroid and bltserv- I might give that at try... seems simple enough. I'm gonna wait a couple days tho and see if anyone else has a 'super simple' fix since I have 4 email accounts on the phone. Thanx for the info.

Just try one account to see if it works with that account. Will probably take you less than 5 minutes :)

I have been experiencing the same exact problem since doing the update last week. Very frustrating. everyone keeps telling me to get over it and download K-9 mail, but I simply want the stock app to work correctly...or like it used to.

I only have one POP3 account that I'm checking. I deleted it...cleared the cache...cleared the data...shut the phone off...removed the battery...replaced the battery...turned the phone on...and then created a new email account. It still behaves the same way and won't sync properly with the POP3 server.

I stopped in the local Sprint store and their "guru" said he wasn't aware of any issues like I was describing. Of course there are people posting in various forums that are experiencing the same thing.

I'd be appreciative if anyone has any advice on getting the stock mail app to sync like it did prior to the update.

Thanks in advance.

I have the same issue. One POP3 account, and if I checked my mail on my PC it would remove the email from the server and then disappear from my phone. But with the latest update (the same one that added that worthless Blockbuster app) this no longer works. I deleted & re-added the POP account to my phone, no change. It's really annoying because that was a great feature until last week!

I have the exact same issue with my EVO after manual update (done last night). I just deleted my Comcast email account from the phone and re-created it as suggested above.

I sent a test email to myself and it was received on my phone. I then downloaded the email from the server to my PC, clicked refresh on my EVO, and the email still resides within my phone's Inbox.

Very frustrating!!! I was also pleased with this feature of clearing my Inbox after emails were downloaded from the server. Now I have ot erase them one by one, or wait until some Sprint tech figures this out.

Just FYI, K-9 does not have this problem with the 3.70 update... <<< ducking, as I know some of you don't want to be told to get a new email program, but I thought I'd mention it>>>

If anyone wants to switch to K-9, I'd be happy to answer questions about it; it's a little intimidating at first, but once you have it all set up, it's really great (I use it for 5 POP accounts and gMail).

jimdroid- I just watched a youtube review of K-9 and have decided I'll give it a try. I'll let ya know if I have any trouble/questions - thanx.

jimdroid- I got my accounts loaded into K-9 - the only question so far: I downloaded mail to the phone (6 msgs all in one account), then I received them on the pc. They then deleted from the phone just like I want (all is good), but the notification is still showing '6' even tho the msgs are not there.

Any ideas why?

Not sure. I'll check it out. I usually go to K-9 via the notification, which gets rid of the notification. You might check to see if Sync Notifications is set (in Settings->Account->Notifications).

The notification might clear the next time K-9 syncs.

Actually, I rebooted the phone and now it seems happy. Thanx again : )

I'm using K-9 now with 4 pop3 accounts and things are working well. If you're frustrated (like I was) with this email issue after the latest update, switching to K-9 seems like a fairly simple and effective solution... and it's free.

I am having the same problem since the update. Have deleted one of my POP accounts and recreated it still does not delete email as it did before update. Turned off EVO and took out battery for a few min and rebooted still not like it was. Now besides not deleting messages read on my computer I must delete them on the EVO then delete them from the EVO trash. NOT GOOD.

This is one of those issues where some people want it one way, and others a different way.

When I first got my EVO, it worked exactly as it does now. That is, messages were NOT deleted on the phone when deleted from the server. I was not happy, but dealt with it.

Then, 2.2 came out, and the messages started being removed from the phone when deleted from the server. I like this behavior, and so was pleased.

After that, A bit of searching will reveal, people who were reporting the "bug" that POP was losing their emails. So, I guess HTC changed it back. *sigh*

Why this was not made an option (like it is in K-9) I'll never figure out. It is pretty obvious that it is a matter of personal taste.

This is exactly what I wanted to say..would love to validate that they changed it back and it's not just some random bug.

One note -- you can force it to re-synch by changing the retention option from "number of message" to "number of days"...

I didn't get my Evo until July 1. However, I always remember the mail being deleted on my Evo after deleting it from my POP server. Maybe I am remembering this wrong. Maybe the update was before I got my Evo.

It would be nice for them to put out detailed info on what exactly the updates do... I tried removing the account and recreating it and that did not help... having to scan deleting emails twice "waste of time"... why not make it an options you can choose from...

Mine worked great with my Exchange 2003 Server at work.
Then the upgrade came in December and it stopped receiving new mail.
Uninstalled the account and reinstalled and its working just fine again.

Did this fix the sync problem where the email stays on your phone when its deleted off the server?
