I am having the same problem with my HTC evo. I am trying to root the phone. I am now getting error message device not found after typing in adb shell. The phone is plugged in. I am trying to run adb shell. I am working on the steps from the link below. Help please!!

I get to the part where you should get a # after putting in adb shell. Instead I get device not found. I have rebooted both my computer and phone several times. Please help.

You would be better off asking your question in the EVO forums here ---> EVO 4G - All Things Root - Android Forums

This forum is for the Motorola Droid.

STOP! Read this first *IF* you have bootloader 2.2, this doesn't appear to work for 2.10 yet. The *BETA* release of unrevoked that will do your EVO with one click just came out in the last day or so. I ran it and it worked fine on my 3.70 EVO on HW 0003, others are finding the same but as always, disclaimers apply.

unrevoked3 v3.30-rc2 beta testing

I would definitely go this route rather than the manual way if you have the earlier bootloader. Took me about 10 minutes start to finish.
