Help HTC EVO HAS A FAULTY HEADPHONE JACK - That's why your FM radio doesn't work.

Almost every TRS headphone I have tried does not work, every TRRS headphone I have tried does work. If you have a TRS and it works your lucky and your in a great reception area. If you have TRRS even in a bad reception area you get half reception bars.

I have tried this on 002 and 003 Evos, this is NOT a problem.

Can you hear MP3's? Yes? There is no problem with you headphone jack!!!!!!!

GET THE RIGHT HEADPHONES FOR THE APPLICATION.

And this is why there is a shortage of Evos out there returns like this.

That sounds familiar.......

I think I am in a different boat because the same headphones that don't work for me work perfectly on my brother's Evo. He has no issues at all.

I can confirm the TRS vs. TRRS findings at least with my 2 launch day units. Both work fine and get great reception with a pair of Samsung TRRS headphones with inline mic that came with my daughters Samsung HighNote and with a pair of Shure TRRS headphones with inline mic, but I get nothing but static with My TSC noise cancelling headphones(TRS) or my SkullCandy in ears(TRS). However, all sets work perfectly fine with any other sound generating app like iHeartRadio or the built in MP3 player.

You may be in the boat I'm in. I can listen to Pandora perfectly with my headphones.
FM Radio doesn't work, and hasn't since the 2nd time I launched it.

Flat out is failed, and it's corrupted software...just no way to separately uninstall and reinstall.

I'm returning my Evo tomorrow and just waiting it out for better quality. My brother works at RS and he told me none of their stores have any Evo's in stock and their waiting lists are over 20 people for some stores here in Southern CA. I started trying to use my brother's old TP2 on wifi and I realize it's going to be a tough wait LOL. What a slow device. I love the Evo so much I'm almost wanting to just deal with the broken headphone jack and screen lift so I don't have to be without it. It's against my better judgement though to do that. Even my friends are saying I should return it. They've seen the issues first hand.

I will definitely need to be mindful of HTC's quality issues in the future. Two years ago I bought a TP and had it replaced twice due to a blown out speaker right from the factory. Finally on my third one the speaker was absolutely perfect but the sliding mechanism for the keyboard would sometimes bind or come out crooked. I decided to deal with the issues and enjoy the phone. Now with the Evo I am plagued with another set of issues from HTC. My brother's Evo is absolutely perfect. Not one issue.

Just thought i should add my 2 cents. I recently thought i had a jack problem. I tried to use trrs, trs, and a wide range of dif headphones. I could hear alert sounds but no media would come through my headphones. After messing around with it, i found out that a app i installed was actually messing things up. if you download the AIM app it will mess with your phones ability to process media audio. Seriously if anyone has this app and they think there phone is broken. uninstall AIM and see if it fixes anything. It did for me.

I solved it by returning the phone. :P

I did your original fix of bending the metal a little. It made a huge improvement but it still would go haywire sometimes and FM radio didn't work.

I've got a Samsung Galaxy S now and it has a TTRS setup but works fine with any headphones I throw at it.

Yeah, the bending of the pin was only a temporary fix for me as well. I eventually found that just holding the pin down on the jack via pressure from the back case fixed it in almost all cases. A stack of tape, a bit of foam, etc. I updated the OP to recommend trying that first.

It's free, doesn't harm your warranty, and may just fix it for some of you out there.

Yeah its a strange issue that i Just encountered, While playing music the connector twisted a little so i turned and voice dialing came up, then i tried it again and it happened again, tried again and it started to forwarded the song (like fast forward on a tape). I this HTC needs to address this.

I had this issue too but as it turned out my headphone jack just needed to be "broken in". It had seemed like I pushed in my earphones all the way when really they weren't. It just needs a little extra force until you hear/feel a click.

I found the issue when I closely observe the headphone jack port. The headphone pin is not going all the way in and it is not touching the last point. So it is causing various issues including not able to get full volume and other issues mentioned in this post.
I bought Evo 3D a week back. I cant get the full volume out of the headphones. When I connect same head phones to iPhone I get better sound.
I even tried with bose headphones. When I connect them to my HTC Evo 3D I cannot feel the base at all. This sucks as I love music and with out good quality of music there is not point of having smart phone.
This is a major design issue fo EVO 3D. I dont know if HTC refunds my money back for this wrong design.

HTC has never really fixed this. A firmware update helped but there's still a hardware problem with the jack. Also the FM radio just sucks and won't pull in stations over 20 miles away. I returned my first one because of the FM radio's lack of performance and the replacement does the same thing. It's sad to see that the EVO 3D has not fixed it either.
