Htc evo water/ reboot screen

I have searched all forums but I cant seem to find a similar problem.

Okay, so my HTC Evo 4g fell in a creek yesterday. It was in a case and I immediately grabbed it. It was working fine, but someone suggested I take the battery out just to make sure everything was dry. When I took the case off there was water inside the case but there wasn't any water in the phone itself with I removed the back cover. Anyways, when I turned it back on it went to the Fastboot screen. The problem I am having is the volume buttons aren't working so I can pick a option to reboot. is this a sign of water damage?

I put it in rice when I got home overnight and when i turned it on this morning the same FASTBOOT screen came on. I attached the USB cord to my computer and my phone to see if it that would work but nothing happened..it shows that the USB is connected tho.

Welcome to AF. Sorry to hear that you dropped it into a creek. It definitely sounds like water damage, and it still may have some in there. For the most part you did what you should, but it's always best to not turn the device on at all until it's sat in a bag of rice for 2-3 days. This will give the components enough time to dry out before turning the device on. By turning it on so early it could quite possibly short circuit the device, and cause a lot of problems.

If possible I would try letting it sit in rice for another 24 hours and then try and turn it on. If your volume keys aren't working, I'm not sure if it's even possible to exit out of Fastboot mode. :/
