Help HTC EVO will not turn on

I had an issue where my evo would cut ON with the button, BUT would not turn off when i hit the button, did a hard reset and everything is back to normal

Call up sprint support and have them reset your phone. NOT the hold down the volume down button and pressing the power button reset; a different kind of reset I've never heard of before. They make you dial ##something something something# on your evo and then enter a passcode. It seems to have worked for me so far. I'm not having the same freeze problems, although my phone restarted spontaneously earlier this morning when I was sleeping. It woke me up... it was weird. But so far I'm pretty pleased.

This happened to me twice today while charging through usb to my computer. When I turned on from stand-by it froze. When I pressed power, the screen turned off and wouldn't turn on again. I did a hard reset after the second time.

Same problem is happening again. Evidently those resets don't work or last too long. I have to exchange this phone or move onto another device that works properly.

Same here, can't get wife's phone to wake up other than take out the battery to get it going. It's starting to look like a software issue to me. Does the Volume power button reset erase all your data?

I have had this happen to me two times in the last two days. The screen freezes and wont let me do anything, hit the power button and it goes black, and you can do anything you want from there and nothing will turn it on. Take out the battery and it will turn back on like nothing happened, but that is not something I want to do everyday! Anyone know what is making this happen?

If mine is plugged in and I try to turn it on the power button does not seem to work. If you unplug power cord and than try it will come on. Their does seem to be some issue with the power button. It has done this to me multiple times. I now have noticed it always occurs with the power cord plugged in either car, computer or wall charger. Any of this seem to prevent power button from working if I reboot phone.

I am having the same issue as well. This has happen about four times. When i hit the power button, cord plug in or not my screen will not turn on. So I then have to pull the battery out. If you look at the screen carefully its not fully black like it would be if you turn it off. It look like to me that its like in a hybrid mode or something. Don't think 4g has none thing to do with it since 4g not working at my house, but works a down the street so i never have it on.:(

I noticed that I just had to push the button on top really hard. After a bit of cleaning it worked like new again. No apps had to be uninstalled.

I came to mexico for my christmas break and when i fone went low on battery i wud charge it as usual but instead of charging my fones battery would keep going down so i would turn it off and let it charge for a while then i would turn it back on and it wouls be at 0% and it would die again but the orange light would be blinking and blinking and it would eventually turn on after leaving it there and pressing the power button but today my fone did that again but their is no blinking light its like dead and i cant get it to turn back on :// its been like this all day

Hey Guys this is Marina
I just expericenced my first "evo wont turn on" moment
and then after a few times of holding the power button it finally turned on.
I went to another website to check out what might be the problem and then someone wrote about how HTC contacted her about the same problem and told her , it was because of an app.
and SO she tried deleting the Advance Task Killer and she no longer had problems.
So i tried the same thing just now, I removed the App, Turned off my phone, and It turned back on with out any problem. I really Hope this Helps you guys as much as it helped me :D

This just happened to me as well! My battery was running very low, so I plugged it in to the USB wall adapter. I then started using the phone, thinking it was okay since it was turned on. Well after about 5 minutes of this, I got a message saying I needed to plug it in to charge, even though I already had, and the light was on for charging. Then after about 10 seconds my screeen went blank and the orange light was blinking. So I thought that it just turned off because of low battery and it was going to be okay. Then after about 5 minutes the light turned off and my phone never turned on. It doesn't recognize any charge whatsoever. I tried taking out the battery, pressing hard on the power button, pressing lightly and longer on the power button..and nothing. I now have it plugged into the computer USB and still no light of indication of charge and taking out the battery doesn't work. What the hell happened to my phone???

I recently just had my evo rooted so I could use it on metro pcs. I have been having problems with phone dying ever since. Just last night phone was charging fine. Woke up this morning and phone was off, now it wont turn on or even show that its charging. Tried plugging into my comp still didnt work swapped charge cables still didnt work. Tried taking out battery several times. Tried turning on with vol down button held, and still didnt work. Dont know what to try now, but this blows. Wish i could have just stayed on sprints network. Anyone with any actual guidance on this issue would be great. Also how can you do a hard reset or anything if the phone wont even turn on. Only fix I can see making if it is a software issue is putting the micro sd card into a sd adapter and looking at the files on my laptop, but i dont know what to fix. Thanks for any help. This really sucks!!!

I have that happened 3 times on wife's EVO. First time brought it to Sprint store, guy tried to do something, but didn't succeeded, told me I have to leave it for tech to have a look, but that would cost me $39. That phone was less than month old! He said that warranty provided by HTC and I should deal with them, if I want that fixed for free. What a scam! The store was full of people and I loudly cursed at the guy (granted, it is not his fault he is just trying to make a living, but I needed reaction from his manager) and started dialing Sprint on my own phone. Another store clerk came up and asked what is wrong, guy explained something, I could make up what they were talking about. The second clerk said that if I do not care about applications, contacts and messages, she can try to reset phone. Did something and phone came to life.

Second time that happened, I was able to recover it myself.

Third time, I called Sprint support, they directed me to HTC. HTC gave me RMA right away.

Did anybody had chance to get it fixed by Sprint or HTC?

Thanks
Relevart

I have a problem similar to that...i will try to explain it to the best of my ability:

June 4th 6AM:
Radio Shack employee activating my Evo, turns it off to do a reset, will not turn back on, no charging light when plugged in, tried taking out battery few times and still would not turn on or charge. There was also a sprint employee there both were stumped so they called tech support, while on hold with tech support the RS employee tried to pull the battery and put it back in and it finally turned on...shouldve just gotten a different handset then...

From then to 6/10/2010:
Never turned it off, everything working perfectly...never dropped the phone, mishandled, got any water on...basically Perfect in box condition, also bought a screen protector so no scratches or anything...

Today 6/11/2010:
Decided to turn it off just 'cuz, same issue occurred again as when I first got the phone, after about 10 minutes of taking out the battery/putting it back in again it Finally turned on...got past the "HTC Evo 4g" screen, played the Sprint video....but then got stuck in an infinite loop of playing the Sprint video...kept doing that no matter how many times i did a battery pull and replace...finally called Sprint and did a hard reset...finally fixed the looping issue...I called the Radio Shack I originally purchased to see if I could get my phone replaced as defective...the person I talked to said she would call her supervisor and find out the procedure for that and then call me back...

and that is where i am now

anybody have this issue? I'm hoping RS will just replace it

Hey! I'm having the same issue but i haven't gotten it back on yet. On Feb 1 2011 i was using the web browser while it was plugged up to the charger and
it just shut off. and I tried taking out the battery and leaving it on the charger but nothing is working. IDK what to do!

Hey Im On Sprints Network and the same Thing is goin on with me! I dont think its a Metro PCS thing it think its a HTC Thing! This does blow!!!!!

I'm still having the same problem. Please post if you are experiencing this problem too.

Yeah I have been having this same exact problem. I used my gps to get somewhere, while it was charging in the car and then it simply turned off randomly and now will Not turn on. I have tried multiple times taking the battery out and even leaving it out for a minute or two. It will not turn on. I didnt drop it or anything, which is why I am even more baffled.

I was talking on phone and battery died. Was able to plug in phone to charger, call party back and finish conversation. After that, phone died and i haven't been able to turn it back on. I even pulled the battery for a few minutes. Still when I put it back in. It has been on the charger all this time since battery died and NOTHING.

My EVO would not go past the 4g screen. The screen just kept showing 4g, then vibrates and turn off. If I press the power button it shows 4g and the process repeats. I finally was able to fix the problem. At first when this happened I took the battery out and charge the phone while it was off. Then once the light turn green to show it's fully charged, I unplugged it and tried to turn it on again, but it started doing the same thing.

I took the battery out again and put it back in. Then I pressed and held down the power key and the volume up key at the same time. It pulled up the boot options. I selected a boot option (I don't remember the name) that start with a "b". It's in blue text. I think it's the first option. Once I selected that it took me to another screen that showed a picture of a phone and a symbol. Then I had to tap the screen to show the other options. On the second screen I selected reboot option and it rebooted my phone back to where it was previously before all the issues happened. I still have all my apps and pics. So hopefully this fixed the issue and will last long. So far I can use my phone now as normal. I hope this helps someone that may be having this issue still. ;)

Same thing happened to my Gem. Fell asleep with it charging (and expecting the alarm to go off!!) and it wouldn't turn back on til I took the battery out & replaced it. The phone didn't feel hot either, so I can't imagine it overheated. Only did it once tho

Fixed my EVO blinking amber/orange light by changing the charging cable; I saw this suggestion on another post. My Evo would not turn on or charge whether plugged into my computer via USB or into a wall outlet. After plugging in with an extra charging cable I had, the amber/orange light blinked a few times and then became solid. At this point my Evo was able to be powered on.

I was able to at least get the phone to start up to back up contacts and various data by doing the volume down/ power on thing to get to the boot master screen or whatever its called. I chose the option to recover. Seen a screen that looked like it was doing a recovery of the phone but then after about 10 seconds the refresh graphic turned to an exclamation point inside a red triangle. After this I powered the phone down and back on and it booted fine. I'm doing a system reset to factory settings now...pretty crappy it's such a common problem...
