HTC Gingerbread update.

Hmmm I updated my Telus DHD and there hasn't been a change in battery life. Does it take a few charging cycles to kick in?

So do you need to back anything up or is everything the same after the update?

I did back up but everything was the same afterwards..... Beter safe than sorry though IMHO.

Some don't notice any change. Same as some people thought battery life was OK whilst others thought it was cr*p before the update. So much depends on how you use it.

So I updated my Telus DHD to GB and I really haven't noticed much in the way of improvement either. Battery life seems the same. Whats the screen off animation ppl are talking about? Is it supposed to be like the one from CM? I kinda dug that on my rooted Milestone...

The screen off animation isn't included in htc sense. But yeah, it's the gingerbread/cm7 one we're talking about.

I put my phone through a workout today at work to test the battery life on the new software.

7h and 11mins on battery

Display 82 % 2h 36m
cell standby 4% 7h 11mins
Drag Racing game 4% 14mins
Opera Mini 4% 15 mins
Dialer 3% 43 seconds
Phone idle 3% 4h 35mins
Android system 2% 5 mins

Phone just ticked over to 29% battery left. I guess if it gets me 2.5 hours of screen time a day, thats really good enough. I shouldn't be on my phone that much at work as it is. But throw in 3g for a whole lot of web browsing during the day and i really dont expect the battery to last through the day. But i can try that another day.

I mean, it gets me through the day. I had 3g on a lot during the day. Downloading ringtones and stuff. Total data from today was around 16mb. Battery life is nothing to brag about for sure. Similar use of Iphone4, according to coworkers would give two full days of usage. One guy even brought his phone to work today with 50% battery and didn't even worry about getting through the day and he plays with his phone a significant amount.

Is this normal or is my battery bad? If this keeps up, I am goign to have someone take over this phone and contract. I give it 3 months. If I have problems it is gone. I want to love the Desre HD. I really do. I just dont want my phone to be on the charger halfway through the day. I really dont.

Sounds about the same as mine. Just did a factory reset after getting gingerbread to see if it makes a difference.

heloo....

How can me to get kies update for htc desire hd...please i am going to use 2.3 gingerbread...

Welcome to the forums!

Isn't Kies the software that comes with the Samsung Galaxy S (probably with any Samsung, but I know it came with my wife's Galaxy S)?

Yeah, it's Samsungs version of HTC Sync. Although they use it for software updates on their phones too.

Nael, try this to see if the update is available -

Settings -> About Phone -> System Software Updates -> Check Now.

If 2.3.3 is available for you, it should download.

Nael - do you have a Samsung or a Desire HD?

Got bored this morning so I updated to 2.3. Everything went smoothly, and so far I haven't found any issues. I don't like the new way it shows how long your phone has been on/unplugged for; it looks sloppy...

Hmmm the Calendar has been using about 6-7% as per the battery info. From 7:30am to 12:30am, the calendar CPU total is 34m 59s, CPU foreground is 19s, keep awake is 1m 3s, data sent is 143.93 kb and data received is 1.12 MB. Has anyone else experienced this? The only things I have syncing are Facebook for HTC sense (once a day), email every 15 minutes, beautiful widgets every 2 hours, and twitter every hour.

I'm about to update my phone from 2.2 to 2.3 but is there anything I should do beforehand? Like backup my pictures/contacts or is it fine to just let it update?

You should be fine...

Pics/Vids are on the SD card (which isn't touched during an update - update is to the phone)... if you are worried, you could always take the SD card out!

Contacts should be sync'd with Gmail... although there are apps to backup contacts if you're really worried about it!

:)

I don't think my contacts are being synced to gmail? How can i check if they are or not, and if they're not how do i sync them?
I think i did disable the syncing because my facebook contacts were added to my phone and I didn't like it, annoyed me haha

Open up a gmail account on your PC, hit contacts. Do you see the phone contacts on there?

If not, open the phone book on your phone, hit menu, Import/Export, then Export to SD Card. It will create a .vcf or .csv in the root of the SD. Copy this file to your PC, open the gmail account again, click contacts, more actions, import. Select the file you've just transferred and that's you sorted.

Hi everyone.
I updated from 2.2 to 2.3 on Friday (Orange). Everything seems ok so far apart from on the BBC websites I can't play any video clips. Before the update it would play them, now there is just an empty screen where the clip should be.:(
Anyone else noticed this or knows how to rectify the problem?

Thanks

Install Opera and see if they work using that? I have the same issue and Opera tends to give better results than most other browsers.

I use Opera Mini - excellent browser, to be fair so is Firefox 5, which is synced to my desktop and with the add-on is a very versatile browser. Battery life for my HD desire is still good following the process to re charge I followed and reported on this forum. I now get over a full 24hrs use, with moderate to over the top use, including morning LBC radio listening on the 60 min train to London each morning, and return journey in evening. Having now got the habit of turning off 3g when not needed, the battery life seems to be shooting up. I equate it to the TV / free-view tuner, if I'm not using it I switch it off to save power and money - ditto the power saving on the HD desire. On the blocking call front - easy filter and call control both really good free apps to get shot of the unwanted calls or SMS. The call control app shades it as it has a fantastic "community" filter for spam or telesales calls. Great now, can leave phone on over night if on-call and no idiots can get through
