HTC Hero Bypass Activation Screen

Hey, I am in the market for a touch screen web browser / mp3 player. since android is better than ipods, I figured I would get an android phone and just not activate it. My question is if anybody has any real and specific knowledge and experience of the touch the screen corners of the device to bypass the activation screen trick works and if it works on the HTC Hero CDMA Sprint if i want to use it standalone.

Yes...a hero would work for this.....
