HTC hero error message BIG PROBLEM

Hello everyone,

First my high end lap top now this

I have encountered a problem with my HTC hero which I have had for about six months. I allowed someone to root my HTC hero about a month ago. They did a great job doing so I may add. I installed many apps on it (games mostly, top rated apps no garbage), as well I upgraded to the latest android version. All the clockwork mods and what have you etc...

It was working fine for the first month after it was rooted and before then it worked like a charm. And then something terrible happened this past week unexpectedly out of the blue...

I first noticed I encountered some problems at the lock screen.. it won't drag down and the touch screen is non responsive, but if I press the menu button it will go to the home screen...I thought maybe I it's due to the error message continually popping up every one second?

I spent several days researching .. I was notified when I received messages and voice mails but couldn't navigate through them and couldn't hear the phone ring..... the touch screen wasnt functional at all, and so I took it to my local cell south provider and they did a factory reset which worked for about a day and then, out the the blue, same problem...neither functionality of the touch screen nor could I power off..although I could power on.

The only buttons that would worked were trackball, menu, power on(power off don't work), back, home. Every button on the keypad works except when I try to POWER OFF. Even the volume up and down works. And if I pressed up while holding down the power button it would reset it.

The error message I have been forevermore getting has repeatedly popped up relentlessly nonstop every second is as follows: "Android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly" keeps popping up every second the only way to get rid of it is to choose the force close button with the trackball/enter button...and this is preventing me from syncing to my contacts...I've tried to wipe it out completely....I think syncing my contacts would solve the issue, however, I can't sync because the error message interrupts the process while it's loading. Maybe it won't solve the issue the touch screen is nonfunctional.

Cell south will not honor the warranty because there is a red dot on the back btw..i've NEVER spilled water on it and always kept it in a hard case and rubber case so how this turned red is beyond me. Maybe cell south did it, maybe not but it's awfully strange.
And even if it did have water damage on it would not have anything to do with this error message.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I've tried wiping everything out and starting back to the basics but still getting the same error message nonstop relentlessly every one second ...

Does anyone have any idea how to resolve the issue?

Thank you

If your rooted did you make a backup before loading the new rom? If you did flash the backup and see if it fixes your issues.

Do you know what custom ROM you are on or are you still on your stock Android 2.1 with Sense ROM? We need a little technical background information to help you out.

Hopefully whoever rooted your handset took a precaution and made a Nandroid backup if you are on a custom ROM. The worst case scenario in your situation would probably be doing a factory reset.

Yeah....what Rom are you on.....You may just need to flash a new one.
Sounds like a file somehow got spoiled....

Yeah, sorry, your post was sort of long and I must have missed that detail. If you install ROM Manager and then choose to reboot into recovery, you can make a Nandroid backup yourself.

Just go to Backup and Restore and choose to backup. After that, I would recommend wiping your cache partition and then going into Advanced and wiping Dalvik cache and then see if that helps with the issues you are having.

You can also power your handset off, then press and hold the volume down button and press power for about two seconds until a screen comes up. In there you can use your trackball to select recovery.

After you are in recovery, try to do the stuff I mentioned above. I hope this helps you out.

Ok, I put the phone in a bowl of rice for 24 hrs to soak up any moisture that could have possibly got into the phone because the dot on the back was pink which voided the warranty.
My brother in law dropped hines phone into a pool and couldn't get it to boot....and he did the rice trick and it solved his problem.
I don't think this is moisture damage though what do u think? It's a common error message I just can't fanthom as to why the touch screen isn't functional.
When i try to go to the backup/restore screen by following your steps, i get a picture of Hero with a triangle on top that has a exclamation point on top half of the phone is black and half is grey and I have no idea what this means? This is the first time I have ever encountered this problem. I've had this phone for less than a year. I am highly disappointed with HTC hero...Do you think rooting could've caused this to happen?

Any help is appreciated.

Alright, I was finally able to get the phone to boot up to the lock screen but still no functionality with the touch screen...so I clicked menu which brought me to the home screen when I plugged the USB cord to my computer I navigated down with the trackball to disk drive and what I found was the only folders I have are: footprints, albumthumbs, LOST.DIR, and rosie_scroll...............

Update: I was able to do a factory reset/wipe and wipe cache completely from my phone.
But here's the problem, when I am at the lock screen I have to press menu to get passed the lock screen then it brings me to the "Using the on screen keyboard" . After that i'll click the box where it says "learn how to quickly and enter text don't worry about pressing the right key every time - just get close and let the software do the rest."

The problem is every split second the error message "SORRY! The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Forcing me to press the force close button is the only option available.. I could skip this stage and go onto "using the GPS setup" Then I will go to finish and I am back to where I started.
Next it asks me to "press the home button or pinch to zoom in and out to thumbnail view.

Do you think this is most likely a corrupted file or is there some kind of physical damage to the hardware internally?

In any case, i've only had the phone for under a year yet they won't honor the warranty because of the white dot on the back says 'VOID'

Any comments, suggestions last resort ideas?

Thanks in advanced.

Peace

Paint the white dot with some White-Out? Haha, I was just kidding. :D

I think you probably just need to completely reinstall your Android OS. Use the update files from your carrier's website and reinstall Android 2.1. :)

you should just start from scratch, it doesn't take all that long, its what i would try if i was you, it could've saved you a day or two of messing with phone...

first ruu back to stock with this file

second root with Universal Androot

then flash rom of your choice

He is on Cellular South. That is why we are having some difficulty helping him. :)

He will have to redo the Android 2.1 RUU that Cellular South provides. I think if he flashes the Sprint one, there might be a problem. ;)

Ok.... I DL'd the file and ran the ruu and then updated the ROM. Turns out that didn't help at all. The version 2.55 was already installed on the phone. So this didn't work.

What exactly do you mean by flash the rom?

Any more suggestions or am I completely F*CKED?
