HTC Hero Root - Linux Ubuntu

ADRSCR

Lurker
So im running Ubuntu 10.10...And I really want to root my HTC Hero so I can put a custom ROM (preferably) Cyanogen...any advice on what I should do? On my hero ive got the 2.1 update and my build/software number is 2.31.651.7. Any gurus out there or this pretty much impossible? PS im a computer wizz so any questions or things that you might have will not be too complicated for me XD so any advice would be awesome :) thanks!

Thread moved from the GSM Hero to the Sprint/CDMA Hero section.

Make sure you're only flashing stuff for CDMA phones; GSM stuff will brick it.

There is a precompiled SDK for Linux on the Google Development site. Just get that and go through the manual rooting process. ADB is your friend.

I can't get the Android SDK or ADB to work at all on my Ubuntu (10.04) machine (64 bit). I have tried everything, installing the 32 bit library, java, etc. Nothing works.
