Root HTC Incredible Android 2.1 Install issues

Hey all,

I have a problem that I have been trying to tackle for about an hour so...
I have a HTC Incredible with Android 2.2 that I want to revert back to 2.1 with PB31IMG.zip.

However when I tell it to open this zip it will throw the following error:

Clockwork Recovery v2.5.1.2
Installing: SDCARD:PB31IMG.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E: Can't open /sdcard/PB31IMG.zip (bad)
Installation aborted.

At first I thought it was that I had an extra .zip extension on the file but that was not the case. Then I checked the sdcard format and it is on FAT32. Finally I started downloading other versions of the file because I though it was corruption (that wasnt the case either). Also checked file location with ASTRO. Now I am out of ideas . Can anyone help me on this one?

I also looked for answers on the forum and most of the threads with this error just said to either format the card or check the download's checksum.

Phone OS info:
Baseband 2.15.00.07.28, clockwork 2.5.1.2. I used unrevoked to achieve root and unrevoked forever to get to S-Off.

Why in the world would you go back to 2.1??

pb31img files are installed from hboot not clockwork. Turn the phone off tgen hold volume down while pressing the power button. The file has to be on the root of your sd card.

***very important***
Also make sure you have an AMOLED incredible not SLCD or you will be left with an unusable phone.

hboot should automatically recognize the PB31IMG file right? So you can flash other things than just CWM versions via PB31IMG?

Hey all,

Well I am here to answer some questions. First of all, I wanted to revert to 2.1 because of a project that I am doing that involves connecting the phone through Android VNC server and then connecting to it using TightVNC. However, I had a problem doing this because it looks like that Android VNC Server has problems with the 2.2 firmware (it crashes for no reason and I have read a couple of posts on this as well).

Also, it does have an SLCD screen so I wont be able to do it anyways.

Thanks guys.
