HTC Inspire Battery Experiences...

Yeah my cousin just went to the inspire, her first android, and she asked me if the battery was supposed to drain fast, she said the only thing she uses is pandora at work. I asked if she let the screen go into sleep mode, her response was dammit no. now she is getting like 20 hrs of use

Only other suggestion I got is if you arent using bt or wifi try keeping those off

Maybe try juice defender
 
What you have on your phone is pretty close to mine. Turn the bt off when your not useing it and turn the screen down to between 20-25% and then add 2 toggles for bt and brightness. Then you can switch on bt quick and turn screen to 100% when needed. just that gained me 2hrs.

I send 3-400 texts a day, 50+ emails and reply to about 30 of them.
Pandora/music 2-3 hours a day. Tons of browsing.
Words with friends with 3-5 people all day, facebook every 20 min.

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head.

Battery life 4 hours max

The usage I posted was only a 2.5 hr time period and was before work. Like I said my heavy use had not started yet. Thats why I asked what constitutes a heavy user? Because a lot of people are CLAIMING 12 to 15 hrs of "heavy" use. And I would consider what I did on my phone this morning very light use and it drained the heck out of my battery.
 
I put this in another thread, but I'll copy it over here. it takes care of my battery issues mostly. However most people say to use Juice defender, but I honestly need like a walk through of what the damn thing does because either I'm lazy (Possible) or just ignorant (also possible) and I'm not entirely sure if I'm supposed to configure it to do certain things.


A Lot of complaints about the Battery life. This is pretty easily taken care of.

1) lower the number of times you have things check in.
Meaning, Disable Auto update from Facebook,
only have gmail check when you open it for email directly.
reduce updates from the weather. I think the default is 1 hour. No ones weather changes that quickly, mine is currently set to 6. (But I Also live in an area where it'll rain for 5 days straight and there is very little temp variation.)
reduce the update from you twitter feed.
every app you have running in the background takes battery to maintain. Use the task Killer and kill the ones you don't use. (words with friends is notorious for this.)


2. ) Disable GPS, The GPS only does you any good when you're outside. Having it on constantly is a quick and really hard drain on your battery.

3) don't use a live wallpaper. Yes they are awesome, yes they are cool. but it's a tax on your battery.

I changed a lot of these settings to an hour to 3 hours. to 6 hours and my battery last pretty much all day, and that's with the heavy texting I do.

And if nothing else, you can buy a bigger battery and replace the one in the Inspire. Good luck doing that with anything Crapple puts out.
 
Which device do you have? I have a Vibrant and wifi calling will run in the background chewing up your battery. You cannot see it unless you use something like system monitor. If it is running use Taskkiller to shut it down. You will periodically need to shut it down because it will restart if you power off for some reason. While everything else helps, if wifi calling is running in the background you will not see much difference in battery power if you don't stop it.
 
Idk what everybody's complaining about I unplugged my phone at 10:32 this morning and by 230 I was under 10% this phone is a piece of shit. Its going back

What??? Your either riding that phone and never put it down or you have a bad battery I been using the shit out of my phone today and it came off the charger at 1030 and at 630 with brightness all the way up and auto on sync on auto and the Facebook and Twitter sync at 30 min I'm at 43% so something is wrong with your scenario

Oh and ps you stream Pandora on any phone for a lengthy period of time battery will die. Streaming kills its the way it is.

And some people are streaming Pandora into a bluetooth device. Some one here at work couldn't figure out why their iPhone4 was dieing so fast. They were driving using 3g to stream then piped it through the car stereo via bluetooth without being on a charger... and its a commute drive lol.

Exactly lol its like I don't see how my phone dies so fast I'm just continuously streaming media for.3-5 hours lol wtf
 
I'm sure i've written this somewhere before, but i want to echo two points again.
1) turn off BT & WIFI. If you are not specifically using either of these (ie- web browsing at home, downloading huge apps, etc), the network is plenty fast for whatever occasional data you have.
2) set to airplane mode if you have spotty or no coverage. the phone wastes a tremendous amount of power trying to connect to the network. In my office at work where i don't get a signal, my phone will last only 3 hours, instead of 9. BIG difference.
 
There are a million things that 5an be done and a million factors that affect battery. People who say this phone sucks its going back don't want to look at their habits and or options

Agreed. I'm currently test running the atrix and had fully discharged and recharged 3x already and I have not seen a MAJOR difference in battery life btwn the two, however YMMV and I understand that on some days that usage may be more or less but on avg. the batteries are coming up to be close the same in my experience.

To boot, being purely objective, I love both phones and am having difficulty in deciding which one to keep. :(

I think price point will be the deciding factor here so far. ;)
 
I'll chime in here... I'm an extreme power user, and heavy user... I wish we could use our inspire phones at 100% everything and still get 12 or more hours of battery.. nut noe that my battery seems trained and so do I, with heavy ,heavy use I will average 10 hours before I get to red... what's heavy use u say?
Heavy use consists of anything that has the screen on.. if u sit there and look at your background with your screen on for hours, you are heavily using it. But yesterday:

- off charger at 8
- words with friends for about 2 hours, while texting, checking facebook and Pandora in the background. AK literally screen in for 2 hours. (I don't like when my phone loses any battery life, but then Im reminded that this is the real world)
- during the day, a few calls, Facebook, texts.. Pandora is off. Uses my gps to find someplace I knew just so I could show it off.
-a friend of mine got rid of their iPhone to get an inspire ... I wanted to be the only one with this phone, but I got over it.. so I spend allot of time teaching her how to change allot of things.. phone screen on much of the time..
- at some peoples house now and people keep wanting to play with my phone.. a child takes it and plays I don't know what for a good while.
- took it back, I don't like children playing with my phone lol.. more texting, more gps to places I knew ...
Long story short at 11:30 pm I'm. In red.. I got a very proud 15+ hours out my beast... I was so proud. I'm content when I get 10 hours (extreme heavy use) , glad when I have 12 hours ( background Pandora usage with not so much heavy use) and static when I hit 15 ! I think the phone likes cold.
Oh and took a pic of the 15 hour notice, just had to take it with my digital cam, since we cant screen capture very easily.
 
My Inspire should be at my house tomorrow, and believe me I will be putting this battery through its paces. If I can get through a battery charge with the screen on for 5 hours I'll be happy.
 
I'm still on the fence with the verdict for the Inspire battery. It seems to me that if i have the screen on for 2 or 3 hours straight, i'm in the red after a fresh charge (yes it's on low brightness).
Does anyone know if HTC will be coming out with an "official" larger battery?
 
Right now my phone has been unplugged for 7 hours. My battery is at 17%.

Today I have sent/received about 300 sms/mms, received about 10 emails. On the phone for about 10 minutes, twitter has checked every 15 minutes and pulled in about 200 new tweets.

Definitely using it harder today than in previous days. Yesterday I was at 74% remaining after 12 hours off the charger.

Doing anything with the screen on will kill the battery. My screen use is 79% of my battery use.
 
Hi, friends. This is my first post in these forums. I got my HTC Inspire five days ago. My biggest complaint about this phone is how quickly the battery drains. 75% of the drain for me appears to be the display. I have changed the display to a "skin" which is non-active and have also done what I call the "Andrea charge" and have run it down and charged overnight with the phone OFF.

I tried Juice Defender AND have had Advanced Task Killer running as well. I haven't even signed up for Pandora (as much as I LOVED it with my Blackberry) because the display on the Inspire drains the battery so fast that I know I cannot use Pandora with this phone.

The phone in general is FAR better in most ways than my former Blackberry 8900.

BUT where the BB 8900 really out-shone this phone is with the battery life. I couldn't drain that battery no matter what I did, INCLUDING running Pandora with Wifi for hours. LOVED that about the phone.

Additionally, the speakers were FAR better on the BB than they are on the Inspire. The Inspire sounds okay with headphones, but I ONLY use my phone in speakerphone mode unless the call is highly personal or I'm out in public and I really enjoyed the fabulous speaker quality of the 8900 ESPECIALLY when in the car.

Back to the battery, I read the ENTIRE battery thread before signing up for this forum and I have tried everything suggested. I really do not like having to disable so many functions because -- ummm -- I bought the phone for its cool functions, after all. :)

That said, I am REALLY hoping I start getting better battery performance soon - otherwise I'll have to return the phone. Any phone is useless if the battery is likely to drain after a few hours of light use. Ridiculous.
 
Well got my inspire and started monitoring the battery. I did non stop browsing from 100% to 90% and my display was on for 38 mins. Which at that pace would give me a little over 6 hours of the display on which is what i consider "usage". That makes me happy as a pig in crap. All of the settings are normally how I would have them on my fascinate or any other android phone i've owned.

gps - off
bluetooth - off
all sync set to manual
brightness - 30%
screen time out - 30 secs
static wallpaper
wifi turned on

Now my biggest problem is getting adjusted to the weight of this phone, compared to my fascinate this thing is freakin heavy.
 
Well if you go to settings and then about and battery nd u click on what's been using your battery it'll tell u Everythings thats using your battery so like my phone is 65% display
 
man "YMMV" def applies here cuz I can push almost a day in half to two if used light to moderately but like some above posters I turn most things off of auto-sync set to manual and also lower my brightness/timeout/and use wifi as much as possible. I mostly use the web couple hours a day (YAY for the bigger screen as I have to use it for thechive sometimes :p ), snd a few txts a day maybe just as many phone calls, angry birds or games here or there.

For a smaller battery I think it still outperforms my old Captivate as it would sometimes die before leaving for work but I can see the Inspire battery as a problem for those "heavier" users. :(
 
I think i have a bad stock battery. I charged it up, threw it in my pocket, and when I got to the pool hall 15 minutes later I was down to 87 percent. It said the display was the biggest battery drain but it wasn't even on. I think there is something wrong or buggy with the stock rom because I've been on my phone continuously here at jury duty for a solid 4 and a half hours, screen hasn't turned off once. Im not on the stock rom anymore either. I'm at 75%. Something runs in the background that is killing our batteries. I haven't been able to find it though.
 
I used to think I was at least a moderate user...but I guess I'm really very light.
I've been getting 48 to 56 hours from a charge pretty consistently.
I micromanage my settings though, and don't ever have the wifi, bluetooth or gps on if I'm not using them, and I haven't streamed any music.
 
I'm thrilled to see the battery potential and abilities with a different ROM.

Traditionally the phone comes off the charger at 6:30am for work. During the course of the day I send between 150-200 text, about an hour of voice, various web browsing and forum searching sessions, no GPS, no wifi, brightness at about 25%. By the time I leave work at 5pm I'm lucky to have 35% of my battery left.

I'm pleased to share screenshots of my results with the same usage as listed above but with a Gingerbread ROM.

Please take note of the battery percentage on my home screen, and then the time since the battery was last on the charger listed at the top of the usage chart.
