Help HTC keeps restarting after android upgrade

tryman766

Lurker
I tried upgrading android on my phone to OTA_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2 after much pestering from the phone about updates being available. The first few times I tried to install it I got esignature verification failed errors. After disabling signature verification it seemed to install ok and asked for a reboot. When I rebooted the screen showed the android unpacking icon and then went to the red loading circle. Another android loading picture then popped up briefly, at which point the phone seemed to crash and restart. The restart keeps looping, getting as far as the red loading circle, before the screen goes black and it restarts again.

I have gone to the boot menu and tried factory reset, wiping the cache, and revert to factory settings, but they don't help. I got the phone second hand, and it was unlocked, but as far as I know it was not rooted. Any help would be very much appreciated.

If you got that particular OTA I assume it was also unbranded. In which case if you go to shipped-ROMs.com, look under android, then phone model = Bravo (HTC codename for the Desire - ignore "desire" as that's a different phone) you will find the same software as an RUU (ignore OTA versions, look for a name that otherwise matches).
Download the RUU to PC, boot phone into fastboot mode (boot while pressing the back key), connect to PC, run the RUU .exe and it will reflash the phone completely. Don't do this with a low battery.

Thanks man. I downloaded an unbranded RUU but when I tried to install it, it gave a customer ID error. I found out that the red circle loading screen is part of the t-mobile startup so i downloaded a t-mobile uk ruu, which installed and the phone is now starting ok.

My problem now is that my sim is on the three network and the 3g is not working. The OS also seems to be different to before. I would like to get it back to how it was previously. I am assuming that the guy I bought it off somehow managed to install the unbranded ruu at some point. When I then tried to upgrade it, it got stuck in a boot-loop. I am assuming this is because I did not have a goldcard. Could you please advise on my next steps to installing an unbranded ruu?

Ok, I assumed it was unbranded because of the OTA software version, but it sounds like it was debranded instead. Most likely the previous owner used a trick called a "goldcard" to trick an unbranded RUU into running.

So, I can think of 2 options:

1. Make a goldcard yourself and run the unbranded RUU. Look in the rooting faq, from the Desire root forum's All Things Root Guide sticky post, and there should be instructions or a link.

2. You can use the 2.3 upgrade RUU, which you also get from shipped-roms, on any UK Desire. Download the zip and unpack it, and the ruu is in there (with a few other things).

As for 3g, is that any 3g (so no phone signal on 3) or 3g data? Uf data then that sounds like your APN settings were changed by the T-Mob ruu. Didn't know it did that, but I have never used one of those. If that is the case then one of those other ruus should fix it, or else you should be able to find the settings on the web and enter by hand (will be in wireless and network menu).

Thats great. Everything you said to do worked. Made a goldcard and installed unbranded android. 3g working now as well.
