HTC Keyboard Download

Call me crazy, I absolutely love the stock HTC keyboard. I have my phone rooted, and kind of want the HTC keyboard back. I know there are a few out there to download, but I can't find one that works with the Eris. Since this is possibly a non-root download, I figured I would post it here. I tried this one:

xda-developers - View Single Post - [MOD] HTC_IME (8th June) v27: Small fix

Both versions didn't work.

I'm running Nonsensikal Vanilla 16.1, in case that makes a difference.

I'll take both rooted and non rooted solutions to this.

Both the high (FroYo version) and low resolution versions force close...

You definitely don't want the high res version of this. Did you install over your failed instal from before, or did you Nandroid restore what existed before your install? And, just to ask the question, are you installing both the keyboard and clicker, or just the keyboard?

I did a Nandroid back up and restored before each install. Also, I installed both the keyboard and clicker. I completely removed the HTC keyboard that was built into the rom (so under the keyboard menu JUST android showed up), and reinstalled the low res version, and still I get force closes. Could it be because this version isn't meant for FroYo? It SHOULD work, right?

Wait - I didn't realize there was an HTC_IME in Nonsensikal by default. What is wrong with the one built in?

Its hard to see for me. The keys are black and hard to see which key you are pressing, which the standard grey and green color scheme was. Also, the voice to text didn't work right for me. Plus there are more options I would use with the downloaded one that I'm trying to get to work now.

You could always try using this site to theme your own version of the HTC_IME keyboard. You can set whatever color scheme you want, and you install it with a file manager like any other .apk

Make sure you choose the low resolution kitchen.

Yes! This worked! Thank you! Although, the voice to text still doesn't work. I think in my searching around, I need to install the voice to text thing from the market, correct?

Glad I could help. I don't know about the voice to text part since I don't use it, but I'm sure someone like doogald or scary alien would have some idea.
