Root HTC M8 - No OS / bootloader outdated?

Hauksort

Lurker
Hello!
Earlier today I tried to update my OS which was some sort of CM 11 version, to a newer CM 12 version. I read everything and was told to clear my system and data folder, which I did, thinking the update would go smooth.
Well the new update didn't want to install as my bootloader was outdated - "This package supports bootloader(s): 3. 18. 0. 0000, 3. 19. 0. 000; this device has bootloader 3. 16. 0. 0000.".
The phone is s-on.
So here I am stuck with no OS and I'm not sure what to do.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Hello! And welcome!

Can you remove the sd card, put it into the computer, download CM11 and put it onto the sd card, put back into device, flash from recovery?

I can't find CM 11 on their website for the M8 as it's pretty outdated by now, so i could use some help finding a working CM 11 rom if you don't mind.
I downloaded another rom and installed it but it didn't want to boot, so I'm still stuck. /:

What carrier are you on?
I'm not familiar with the M8 but I can try to dig up something.
Meanwhile, I've moved this into the M8 root forum;)

It's European so none? I'm not sure to be honest.
Thank you for moving the thread! :)

Edit; I found a CM11 Snapchot on their website and flashed it, the phone is working again!

Should I worry about getting the CM12 since I have to update the bootloader?
Since the phone is s-on I had to get another rom to update some ova's which also update the bootloader or something? And if that is the case, I can't be bothered.. :p

Correct, if you're s-on you need to get back to the carrier specific (or to be more exact CID and model) stock rom version that came with the phone, or if you took any OTA updates the exact version you updated to. Then relock the bootloader if you unlocked it, then check for and take any OTAs. Hence why Mikestony was asking what carrier you were on.

I don't have a carrier as far as I know, since it's European, but I could be wrong!
I'm not sure if I took any OTA's before I got CM 11, but I don't think I did.
The CID number is HTC_Y13 and the MID number is 0P6B10000 if that helps.

That's good, yep you've got a non-branded WWE CID, which makes things a lot easier for you if you can be bothered to get back to stock [emoji1] . You'll still have a sim and/or contract with a carrier, just your phone isn't a branded and bloated carrier model.

This is going to wipe your phone. Get a full charge before starting.

You're in luck.

Follow the instructions there, your phone is s-on, so you can only do steps 3 and 4, but that's all you need.

You'll need to do, from FASTBOOT USB mode, a bootloader lock using -

fastboot oem lock

Assuming that you have fastboot installed.

Then get the files from the XDA thread and do the RUU flash there as directed.

When you get this part -

htc_fastboot flash zip ruu.zip

Do it twice.

Your bootloader and therefore the rest of your firmware are WAY out of date - so even if you install a new rom chances are it won't work.

Do a factory data reset when done.

From there, use your original Unlock_code.bin file, unlock the bootloader again, fastboot flash the *LATEST* TWRP -

Then install whatever you like.
