Help HTC one build quality

I think if anyone here understood how the fabrication process works, you'd be surprised you got anything close to gap-less for $200! That said, I picked up the Verizon HTC One, my location only got ten, and the one I got seems to be flawless. Though I'm not quite as anal as some users out there, so maybe I missed something.

It's a $700 phone...I have other electronics that actually are cheaper than $200 that use similar construction techniques that don't have gaps. So excuse those of us who care about our phone which cost close to a grand, which was touted as gapless, and the flagship, not being up to par with the quality one should expect from a device like this.

Luckily mine is beautifully put together. I was inspecting it with a lighted jewellers loop, it looks like the bottom and sides are probably put together first then the top, speaker grills and screen are added later. The top edge of the sides, where they mate with the screen look like the have a slight taper/bevel on the edge. This can appear to be a gap. However most of the photos I've seen look like legit gaps.
I'd return mine if there were obvious gaps.

After 3 months of extremely careful use and handling of my precious One, I noticed some fine scratches on the screen which really upsets me. I didn't put on a screen protector because I believe I paid so much to touch the screen and hold the aluminum body, etc...

Sadly, Gorilla Glass isn't perfect so if you do go naked it shouldn't be too surprising that you have some scratches. Still, if that's the worst you have you're doing pretty good in keeping it in great shape. I keep a case and screen protector on mine because I work in the outdoors part of the time so haven't had a problem. While you may not want a case, I'd experiment with some screen protectors to see if there's one that suits your aesthetics while keeping the screen protected. You may find something that works for you.

it's ivory, and I think it's meant to look better with age. mines in an otterbox commuter and looks great to me.(when i remove the phone)

I've been running in to problems with my phone that I see as poor build quality.
First up is the speakers are blown. Apparently the same speakers for music and the earpiece are the same because it's now pretty useless for calls with me always saying "what" when it crackles.
This happened on a Sunday night after the closest T-Mobile store closed, and pre-update that limited volume. Later that night my phone fell out of my pocket when getting out of my car (a Miata... Short drop) and the screen has a tiny crack that I don't see as needing replaced, but ruins my warranty replacement idea.
Now my phone won't charge because the port is loose.
Unhappy.

Yep, but a $175 deductible. I'm not bothered by the crack since it's so tiny and off the display area so I'm not too happy about needing my insurance to replace what should be warranty issues.

That REALLY sucks. I would be really frustrated if I was in the same situation.
You posted about your blown speaker way back on July 26th... I know how hectic life can get but why not try to get your warranty replacement right away after the device was damaged from circumstances within the carrier's control (this was pretty clearly T-Mobile's fault as they had enough issues that they had to issue an update to lower their volume setting - other carriers did not seem to have this same problem).
Also I see a number of posts of yours past and present regarding dropping devices. If you have a track record of working in an adverse environment or being hard on your devices, why not take some extra precaution when handling the device? Yeah, the old slick smartphone sliding out of angled dress pants pockets right out the car door trick. I had that one happen with an older device when getting out of my 2-seater too, really frustrating (luckily no cracks). I don't put a phone in my dress pants pockets anymore before or after driving.

I have only had my HTC ONE for a week and the white strips top and bottom (on the back) have started to discolour.
They have seemingly taken on the colour of my slip case.
I now have a clear plastic case on it to stop it happening again, but disappointed that it has happened so soon.
Any tips for cleaning these strips??

No, you should realize that cheap cases will bleed onto a white antenna. It's like putting cheap wax on a car. You get what you pay for. My cases from Radio Shack, Seidio, and itskins have not caused any problems.
You are making an assumption that he/she was using a cheap case. They didn't specify the case they were using. It may have nothing to do with the case. They said it APPEARS to be taking on the color of the case. We don't know that for a fact yet.
We need more information to help. Personally, I have not seen any issue with the white portions discoloring. I alternate between my Otterbox Defender, or having no case at all on it. I agree that the most likely culprit is the case being used, since I haven't seen any discoloration on a naked one so far (just talking about mine, not the community at large).
Pagdodd, what actual case were you using when you noticed this happening? Were you in a place with high humidity, or did your phone/case get wet at some point? Could be dyes leeching. That would also help determine how to clean it.

If the wet wipe did an effective job at cleaning on the ends, maybe it would be a good candidate for the insulator strips too?
You could wrap the wet wipe of your choice around the end of a cotton swab (Q-Tip or is it a Queue-Tip in the UK
) or something else that will help direct the material to the small area. You don't want too much liquid involved though.Tlicious1020

The man already self diagnosed his problem. The HTC One Fairy did not turn the antenna strips the same color as his case. What does humidity have to do with anything? A case shouldn't bleed onto a phone period and no matter the climate. Cases are cheap and expensive because of the processing and materials that goes into a case. If it's a cheap case then what do you expect a manufacturer to put into that case to keep profits high and manufacturing costs low? Business 101

A phones ability to get dirty isn't a manufacturing failure. White plastic will yellow with time and will eventually get dirty. You can get some flitz metal and plastic polish and a cu-tip or try and alcohol wipe.
The cost of a case has nothing to do with dye bleeding. I can't imagine a tpu case straining it but certainly a leather case could.

I used the case as an example of where the colour MAY be coming from.
It might have been while it was "naked" in my jeans pocket.
My point was that it, sadly, has a "weak" point. (for want of a better word)

Fact: There is no expensive Seidio, itskins, or Ottorbox cases bleeding all over HTC Ones. Shoe me an expensive case that bleeds. Name one and the price.
That was my point. He didn't say it was a cheap case, or whether it had cloth or leather. Depending on the material of the case and the quality of it, temperature or humidity could very much be the cause for bleeding color from the case. The person suggested it might have come from the case, but gave no information as to what the case was. Also, heat and humidity could make the plastic more able to take on discoloration even on the phone itself, although I doubt it is a problem with the HTC plastic, just from my own experience, unless the poster just got a bad phone.

A plastic, polycarbonate, or $0.50 amazon tpu case will not bleed. Unless they are painted or stained. A $60.00+ Italian leather case may. Cost has nothing at all to do with staining. I've had many cheap cases and expensive cases, everything from leather to rubber and never ever had one bleed color. The leather would be the only one that could.
But this is a silly argument (and detracting from the thread topic). The guy admitted it could have been his jeans anyway.
