HTC one m8 camera problem (night photos are blurry)

Creed1989

Lurker
Hello, i bought this phone 2 months ago and everything was fine, night pictures were great and i really enjoyed it. I don't take many night pictures but it's cool to know that u can use your phone when u need it and take a good pic. So last night i was taking some pics and something was strange to me, when a take a picture there is no details, auto focus do it's job but when flash come and picture is taken it becomes little blurry and i lose details. The last second of autofocus - picture is good, but when it takes picture it's blurry. Day pictures are fine.

I didn't install any apps except Kitkat update 4.4.3.

I cleaned my camera lens and it's not a reason of blurry pictures.

Here you can see pictures of my camera before (when it was good) and now. Pictures are taken on the same place, same brightness and same camera options (default camera options), so please check it, i marked it with : before and now.

Any help please ?

Welcome to the forums! :)

OK, that is very frustrating, I am sure.

Especially because with flash or low light, you can't use the ufocus later to fix it.

I saw someone else had a surprise with their 4.4.3 update - the actual camera settings had changed, even though they should not have.

You can try to either - go to camera, settings, and reset to default - and also try - main settings, Apps, All, Camera, and clear the data and cache there.

There was a *really minor* firmware update after 4.4.3 just a few days ago for some international M8 phones - I don't think that will matter but please try updates in your main settings to see if it applies to you.

Also, I forgot to check if it was included in the update but there is a Gallery update in the Play Store, so it will tell you if you need it. Check out "HTC Gallery"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.htc.album

Also, especially check if you are set to focus and capture by touching a point on the screen or by the button. Mine is on screen, but I don't know if that is a 4.4.3 option -

Thanks for your reply.

I tried with default camera settings, cleared catche, even i did factory reset but nothing changed.

I have updated HTC Gallery. It wasn't set to capture by touching the screen, but i think it will not help, because my pictures before (which are great) were taken by touching "shot button".

I just encountered a similar problem with my phone but all of my pictures had a washed out look to them. I googled and found that there is a manufacturing issue where a film was left on the lens when the phones were shipped and it can get scuffed up, you have to look close to see it.

I used toothpaste, q-tips, and a microfiber wipe to fix the issue. put a dab of toothpaste on the end of a q-tip and wipe the lens in a clockwise direction. Wet the other end of the q-tip to remove the toothpaste from the lens then wipe it clean with a microfiber towel or wipe. I had to do it twice to get all the scuffing off.

The same film is also on the lens for the front facing camera and it looks like it is also on the little depth finding camera.

Hope this helps you out.

Edit - I read your OP closer. Sorry, I've got nothing if you already cleaned the lens.

I'm facing the same problem..
Go back to 4.4.2 and your camera will be like new..
I'm curious how many people have this problem

Yes, but my phone has the bootloader unlocked and it easy for me to swich between custom roms
Are you on stock?

I may advise a better method for cleaning the protective shield installed on the camera lens of M8 (which is coated glass).
Go to any optician in your district and ask for a anti reflex lens cleaner with detergent.I got it and it worked perfectly well. (I used brandname SOLA from Italy and on the tube it says, herbs solution, highly deterging, anti-fog, antistatic, for anti reflex lenses.)I applied only two drops with a cottonbud and wiped off with a soft cloth.
RESULT IS EXCELLENT,BUT I DO NOT KNOW HOW OFTEN I HAVE TO CLEAN IT.
I am very unhappy with this situation. This is clearly a production failure. I work for glass industry and these protective shields are coated in order to make glass more resistant to external physical effects (scratches) and also dirt repellent.
This is my 6th phone and I never experienced such a problem before. Not with Samsung, not with LG and even not with my older HTC.

I have the same problem with my htc one m8 both night and day the pictures are blurry I did all stuff with cleaning the lens and all those things already and still no improvement what can I do for this to change
