Help Htc one m8 cannot work with att?

I recently bought a Verizon HTC one m8 and put my SIM in it to use on the AT&T network. After fiddling around with the settings I've managed to get it to work somewhat, however, I'm only getting the "H" in my data field rather than 4g or 4g lte. I'm also getting a notification that says the SIM is not recognized. I don't mind the notification, but how to I fix the inability to connect to 4g? I've used switchit and tried various other fixes, but none of them address my specific problem. Any help?

The Verizon M8 supports LTE bands 4 and 13. ATT uses bands 4 and 17, so if you are within one of the locations where they have band 4 support it should work, otherwise not.

A quick web search suggested that AT&T's band 17 coverage is wider than their band 4 cover. So it could just be as simple as you not being in a location where they have the LTE band that the handset supports.

Much appreciated. The phone is unlocked, however, and my previous phone (HTC one x) had no issues finding the 4g as well as LTE. I believe it's the shadowed settings that I'm unable to change that are at fault here.

Which "shadowed settings" are those?

And was your One X also a Verizon handset? I didn't think they'd released the One X for Verizon - there was a version of the Butterfly they used instead, the Droid DNA. If it was not a VZW handset it doesn't tell us anything about what a VZW M8's compatibility might be.

My network preferences list etc in my network section of settings. I realized that I misunderstood what you said about the band coverage after I replied, but I had to go back to work from break. Would I be correct in thinking that the band support for the Verizon M8 is a matter of programming rather than hardware? If so then it should be a matter of changing the bands on which the phone operates for data correct?

It's a hardware limitation. You won't be able to add bands to the device through any software manipulation.

No, I'm afraid it's not a matter of programming. The Verizon model will have different radio hardware (it has to have for the CDMA network), and if you managed to install ATT firmware on it (which would not be easy) you'd hard brick the phone.

AFAIK, attempting that and getting anything wrong is a good way to get to a paperweight. Plus, I don't know if it's even possible for the Verizon version.

Or sell the phone on and get one that's compatible.

Or live without LTE (or hope that they roll out the compatible band where you want to use it). That's all I can think of.
