I'm thinking of getting the Htc One M8. I plan on buying it in the US and using it in Canada. My question is, will I have any issues with 4G or phone service? I have a plan with Telus and I'm pretty sure the network bands will be fine but I need some reassurance from people who have done this.

It depends on the carrier service in your area . no one can tell you this but the people that live near you . how is your service now in that area. If good or great that's how it would be with your m8. Next question is are you going to root or mod the device .
