Help HTC One m8 gets hot

I just got my m8 about a week ago and I noticed that whenever I charge it or play certain games the phone can get really hot. It typically gets between 100-108 degrees. However whenever I turn it on powersaver mode the temperature tends to drop a decent amount. Is this normal or is my phone defective? Any help would be appreciated.

That is normal for this phone. 108 actually isn't very hot for a phone, especially when it's charging or under a heavy load. It's definitely cooler than my M7

Also, this is probably not any hotter than most phones & I believe the aluminum dissipates the heat better vs plastic. Might be why you actually notice the heat increase.....

When you are playing a game for hours at a time a phone or video game system will run hot. Ever touch a wall charger after its been plugged in for hours and under heavy use? It gets hot, just like a phone.

I've only felt my phone getting hot once or twice. It's because I had 4G on and my phone was in the breast pocket of my flight suit. Of course the phone is going to heat up since its close to my body and in a pocket.

My phone got to 122 degrees the other day when it was synced to my car for a long time. It was REALLY hot. Yesterday it was at 107 I had to put it in the frige. I'm barely making calls it's all data and Bluetooth.

At 107 your don't have to put it in the fridge :p It's well within normal operational limits and is not dangerous. 122 still isn't bad if you are charging the device and using GPS or streaming music, especially while using a high current charger.

Your phone wasn't sitting on the dashboard was it? Probably not, but this is to everyone. When your phone is in the car and being utilized, don't use the nav/gps with the phone on thedashboard. Put the phone in a cool spot or where the vents in your car can cool your phone. You are asking for a phone to overheat as it sits in the window or on the dashboard during the daytime of summer. At night you can put your phone where ever you want.

I bought my M8 about 6 hours ago, and I noticed it got noticeably warm within minutes of me even operating it, which I thought was weird. Not nearly as hot as my GS3 has been getting though when I would use it for even five friggin' minutes, so I'm guessing I shouldn't worry? I'm at work and won't be able to heavily use the phone until late tonight, I'm gonna test it out and I'm hoping it doesn't have overheating problems.

Hi,

So we are not allowed to use new phones as a GPS device on a sunny day?

All of my old phones could sit on my GPS holder on the dash all day long and not have any overheating issues. Is this no longer the case with newer phones?

Thanks,
Juggernaut

I have used my m8 on the dash in the sun for hours for navigation. It gets hot, but it can handle it.
My old Galaxy Nexus would get smoking hot and start lagging really bad when I did the same. I haven't seen the m8 lag whatsoever from the heat.
Heat is bad for electronics, but I have insurance ;)

I know I'm late, I just saw this, so better late than never.

Speaking of never, here's a public service announcement for everyone who doesn't know this ...

You never want to put your phone in the freezer.

Rapid cooling + enclosed space = water condensation on the electronics

Sports wrap that you keep in the freezer, nice and cool when you take it out and safe to wrap around wrist or ankle? Ok. Remove from fridge, place kitchen towel over for insulation, lay phone on top.

High temperature from GPS use - normal for all multicore phones anymore.

Getting into AC airflow really helps - Amazon sells various phone holders that attach to car AC vents for this.

thanks for info EM - mine gets warm if using the screen a lot - but i dont worry really - im guessing that having a gel case on it wont help either :)
cheers
