Help HTC one m8 Problem after last update!!

ASHRE

Lurker
Hey guys,

Since I last updated my HTC one m8, my mobile slowed down, lagging, and the worst is that some apps won't connect through my home's wifi any more "like clash of clans, and whatsapp though whatsapp connects but won't download media"

I tried resetting my mobile and problem still there!

Can any one help me with this!

Sorry guys but I've to say that I've been an HTC user for 6 months now I think, and I'm really hating this mobile day after day! it has the worst interface and features, can't wait to switch!

EarlyMon thanks for your prompt reply.

I reset the mobile to it's factory settings, from SETTINGS>BACKUP & RESET>RESET PHONE

My mobile is not locked if that what you mean with the "carrier", I bought it about 6 months ago from an HTC show room with open contract.

I had it before the update and didn't have that problem!
Looking at your Software Information under HTC SDK API level you have the same as my mobile has - it is marked as Unknown. Mine is unlocked and with Three. I have made contact with HTC Technical Support who suggested a Soft Reset and if no luck then a Hard Factory Reset, both of which I had already tried. I informed them of this and they then suggested that my phone could be sent in for repair service, for the O/S to be reflashed, they say this would be covered by the warranty. However I have not noticed that this omission has shown any side effects on my phone as everything is working ok with one small exception and that is that every now and then a small pop up relating to SDK appears for about just over one second and unfortunately I have not been able to read it!! As a matter of interest, before the up-date I know that HTC SDK API level did have a figure in it but I cannot remember what it was though. However, I would be grateful if anyone has any idea of how to deal with this problem as I am not so sure that I would want to take HTC up on the idea of having my phone's O/S reflashed.

does the problem occur when you are in Safe Mode? Apps that were compatible before Lollipop may not work as well after the update. If you don't have the same problems in Safe Mode, then it is a 3rd party app that is the problem. Otherwise, it is the 'factory' software.

I have a "Clean Master" app
I had it before the update and didn't have that problem!
Nonetheless, you don't want it and since updating, you really don't want it.

Clean Master, used for anything other than cleaning caches by hand, is a bad thing.

And cleaning caches when they don't need it definitely slows down your phone - not an opinion, the explanation is in the link above.

I agree with the advice to run in safe mode - it's not impossible to get a bad update, either from a glitch in the download or a glitch during installation.

Running in safe mode - with none of your apps running - will show the true baseline performance of the system.

If not ok, we talk about the next step.

If ok, remove Clean Master ASAP and we'll go from there. :)

Tough call.

I know from being rooted and installing my own rom updates that it's possible to get a bad install. Not common but it definitely happens.

The problem you're really facing is luck to be honest.

You have a nuisance level defect, you've done what you can as a user, and you have HTC tech support uncomfortable enough to want to square it away now for free.

If you elect not to, and you're only seeing the first symptoms and greater problems manifest later (in other words, you already have other defects right now, they're just latent and you can't see them), then the free fix may be off the table down the road.

Also - HTC update software looks for a known system by checking status and various files. If any of yours don't line up, you're not going to get the next update.

So - how lucky are you feeling?

It's a pain in the neck either way, but that's honestly what you're looking at.

If you need a good backup, I recommend Helium.

I tried the safe mode, though I can't run any apps to check either if the problem still exists or the performance "Mainly the performance slows down with normal use of apps". That's been said the phone looks smooth in safe mode

Thank you EarlyMon one further reason for my not wanting to send my mobile in for for a service repair is that I have only read reports of people suffering further problems after servicing and also long waits for the work to be carried out and their mobiles to be returned. Their seems to be a lack of any good encouraging reports which I would have thought would be natural for people to praise HTC for!! Also I am wondering how many other persons are suffering with this omission to their update as it is something that many may not notice unless they check the Software list. I see in xda-developers that Dmonium has dealt with this problem and suggests that this can be fixed by using notepad++ and inserting a Code into the path /system/etc/sdk. I am not sure whether this is for a rooted or stock phone. Also I am not technically able to even try such a thing, I would have a go if I knew how to though.

I forgot to say that in their first reply to me HTC said "This issue should not effect the performance of your device." and then went on to suggest that I should try a Soft Reset and if no luck then a Factory reset.

That's for a rooted phone and sounds rather silly.

Your other option if you develop other issues - root and install a better rom.

I certainly did.

PS - you'll void your warranty. You seem to have pretty lousy warranty service anyway. Not sure you have any to lose.

And that's your option if it has more of a problem than you see right now.

I'm not saying that you *need* to run out and root right away.

OK, so we've established that the phone is fine and you have crappy apps that aren't ready for Lollipop.

Plus you hate Sense and everything else before this.

Change it. Root it and install something else.

You can even convert to a GPE rom - plain Android just like a Nexus except for special M8 hardware support.

PS - no snip or snark associated with my remarks about crappy apps. I've had others complain about those to me - and I run crappy apps myself sometimes. It's nothing personal, just is what it is.

In your case, unless you just want to sell it now, I do think that you need to consider the course of action I suggest.

You have a rocking hardware platform and an operating system that doesn't agree with you or your apps - and life is too short to put up with a bad cell phone when you can easily fix it. ;)
