Root HTC One M8 unicode support

hi guys, I recently bought a HTC One M8 and wanted to install a local Unicode font (Sinhala). I unlocked the bootloader and rooted successfully as I can brows and play with files through root explorer via supperuser app. Then I copied font files in to system\fonts and edited the fallback xml file to read the additional font files I copied. But after rebooting the device I cant find the copied fonts and also the edits of xml file were also gone. It seems eventhough I make changes through root explorer the device resets all when rebooting. I would appreciate if someone can help me on this regard..

Welcome to the forums, I've moved this to the root forum.

It sounds like /system was mounted read-only instead of read-write.

To change it, get a command window where you installed adb and fastboot (used to unlock the bootloader) and command -

adb remount

Then try again.

hi EarlyMon, thank you for the reply. I tried adb remount but it gives an error as follows. any help?

adb server is out of date. killing...
* daemon started successfully *
error: device not found

Yes - do you have USB debugging on under developer options?

If you don't have developer options turned on, main settings, About, Software information, More, and tap build number until it gives it up, 5 to 7 times or something.

After USB debugging is on, try it again and look for messages on your phone to verify that you're the one doing that.

hi, got it done. now it seems online and showed "serial no." and "device" but when I tried to remount it says "remount failed: Permission denied"

any help EarlyMon??

Sorry, got called out of town and am just now catching up on the technical posts.

OK, next try is -

adb shell mount -o remount,rw /system

And finally, it may be easier to first make a nandroid backup and then see if there's a recovery installation zip for the font you want.

And... if you have the font on your SD card, you can try to mount /system in TWRP recovery and move it in using the advanced tools there, ie, a copy from a command terminal.

Again, nandroid backup before playing there.

as I have to copy some fonts and also replace the Fallbackfonts.xml file, with edited one, I am in doubt. Can I do those two operations via recovery mode? I have TWRP installed.

Yep, get them on your SD card (internal or external), go to TWRP, mount system and the sd card, and then use the TWRP file manager for the the moves.

hi, I found it and changed permissions in to 0644 using chmod. after rebooting, newly copied font files seems ok. but there is a problem with xml file. still I get the same old fallback_fints.xml in etc folder. And also please note when coping the xml file I never got overwrite/replace notification, and it concerns me.
Any advice?

Sorry, I'm not up on fonts, just the mechanics we've discussed.
