Help HTC One specifications and discussion (Keep thread on topic)

HTC has said it, it's in one of their statements or videos posted somewhere here.

Those white lines on the back are plastic insulators for the two antennas, same material is used on the sides, and has to be around all sides of the two antennas.

Cased in a metal body, it's staggeringly good looking. The anodised aluminium unibody makes up the front and back of the device, with a plastic insert that runs around the middle.

Although the message is very much "all metal body" from HTC, there are still plastic breaks, so it's not quite the metal monster it's made out to be. It is, however, solid, with no sign of flex or bending when you manipulate the phone.

From what I have read the new phone lacks an sd slot. This sounds like it could be a problem for anyone who has a lot of data stored on their current phone.
 
its not a problem if one knows how to take advantage of cloud storage. users of the htc one get 25gb of free cloud space for two years. you also have google drive and microsoft sky drive, both of which offer a certain about of space for free.

you also can offload content to your computer.

if one does not want to take advantage of these offerings, this phone is not for them.
 
That's unfortunate because I'm definitely not into cloud storage and where I work at there are times when I have no signal and need to access data. Also the area I live in is only 3g and as far as I know not even on the list for the 4G LTE. I was hoping that in the final production version they would incorporate an SD slot into the phone but I guess that didn't happen.
 
You just have to use the space you have smarter. I have yet to fill up my 32Gb phone and I carry around well over 10Gb of music, about 5Gb of apps and the rest is free barring a few hundred Mb on docs and the like.

My music collection at home is well over 300Gb but 10Gb is more than enough to carry around 2500 different music tracks on the phone. If, for some unfathomable reason I need more than that, I can add more and not have any issues.

I can see why an SD card is a must have for some people but for me it really isn't.
 
I definitely understand about using story space wisely my 32 gig card is nowhere near full. Maybe it's just the fact of it being something new and different and also the pain in the butt it will be to move all that stuff from the card to another phone.

Moving forward, we'll be posting our site's tools and methods for you to transfer your existing sd card contents to your new phone.

For most folks, drag and drop and drag using a pc in the middle will do the trick.

Not as fast as moving the sd card over but it's a one time deal and not difficult.
 
nothing unfortunate at all. There are more devices coming out that do have SD slots so you have other options as well.

there is still plenty of life left in the evo 4g lte, heck some people still use the original evo. dont feel pressured to get the next latest and greatest thing my friend... ;)

I guess the unfortunate thing is I'm kind of hooked on HTC phones. wife has a galaxy s3 and I don't like it at all I was looking forward to the next generation HTC. .right now I have the 4g LTE and I'm not real thrilled with it so I was looking for the next replacement. personally I'm still not sure about this non replaceable battery thing fortunately I haven't got into a situation where the battery ran dead no way to charge it as I have with the other phones.
 
I like my speakers to be loud because I love to Skype and do video chat.

Before I have to hold my ear close to the phone, which means people are looking at my ear.

Is this the loudest phone yet with dual front speaker? I might get this phone just because of this.

I have been frequenting both the S4 and the HTC One threads on here and other forums as I thought, up until today, that I would want to test both phones before choosing. However, after looking at my viewing habits over the last few days I have been spending 90% of my time on the HTC One forums. I think that tell sme all I need to know.
 
Just as an example of the loudness of the One.....my ringtone and message tone for the last couple of years has been the old monophonic Nokia ringtone and "Beep Beep" message tone, i have the One set on the lowest volume level before it is off and it is still too loud!

They are quite piercing tones admittedly, but this thing needs more volume steps!:D
 
I've not heard that Megadeth song in years :).

I attempted to record part of The Stone Roses concert I went to see last year using my One X, the results were beyond terrible. Ian Brown doesn't have the greatest of voices at the best of times, but for some reason, him, the drummer and occassionally my dulcet tones were pretty much the only thing you could hear properly :(. I think it's something called AGC where it cuts out/lowers the volume of certain frequencies if they go over a certain level.

The One certainly sounds like a marked improvement. Potentially a bit hissy, but that could just be background noise at the concert anyway.
 
Does anyone know if this phone supports Bluetooth AVRCP 1.3 or higher? My car can display track info and album art when I use Bluetooth audio, but the Nexus 4 (or really stock Android) only supports AVRCP 1.0. This means I can play audio through my car over bluetooth, but I can't see track information. I previously had a Galaxy S3 and that supported AVRCP 1.3. I'm hoping HTC has made this modification to the One. Does anyone know?
