HTC One X

Is anybody else feeling a bit envyous for the HTC One X? Its more powerful than the laptop I'm using now, nearly 2x as fast. 1.6 Dual core vs 1.5 Quad. Damn! Only thing is I won't be able to afford such stuff, money please? Battery life can't last that long with a 1800mah can it with such a large screen.

CNET is run by Apple fanboys. You can bet that if the iPhone 5 comes out with quad-core they'll talk about how revolutionary it is. I am inclined to think that AT THIS POINT, it's overkill. But if you buy it, then six - twelve months, it's still going to be standard.

To me the size of the phone is excessive.

I actually forgot about that, they have their own Apple Byte section which all adds to the theory. I've seen numerous comments about it as well, but it never hit me before I posted. They put the iPad2 against the ASUS Prime and still 'apparently' the iPad2 is better..

Yeah its big, I wouldn't go far over 4inches as I usually have small pockets. Never in a suit

In the US AT&T has an exclusive on the One X. The AT&T version will have the same dual-core S4 Snapdragon used in the One S, not the quad-core Tegra 3.

T-Mobile (my carrier) is getting the smaller One S and I'd rather have it anyway. I agree with A.Nonymous - the One X is just too big.

HTC One X => 5.29 x 2.75 x 0.35 (134.36 x 69.9 x 8.9 mm)

HTC Evo 3D => 5.00 x 2.60 x 0.47 (127 x 66 x 12 mm)

Galaxy Nexus => 5.33 x 2.67 x 0.37 (135.5 x 67.94 x 9.47 mm)

RAZR Maxx => 5.15 x 2.71 x 0.35 (130.7 x 68.9 x 8.99 mm )

Anyway, this is interesting -

HTC ImageChip claims to be the new king of the hill in smartphone cameras (with samples)

I hope they don't blow that, I really hope they finally get that right.

With the exception of the EVO 3D, I've held all of those phones in my grubby little hands. All of them are too big although the RAZR Maxx is borderline IMO.

I saw a post on G+ where a guy actually got a notepad out and kept score. The Prime got more victories in more categories than the iPad did, but the iPad still won. There was stuff like, "The Prime has better video playback, better camera and support for more audio formats so we're going to give the edge here to the iPad." It was a little silly.

Edit: I just looked it up. On the multimedia round they said, "The Transformer Prime dominates this round so we're going to call it a tie." WTF????

I don't really want to dive into off-topic conspiracies, but I wonder if Apple pays review sites to sponsor them.

As for the One X having a good camera...EarlyMon, did you ever install the Amaze Camera app/mod onto your Evo(s)? It really does take one hell of a picture even with our '5' MP camera. Makes me wonder what that app can do with some high quality picture hardware behind it.

HTC is really making me think twice on my personal protest of buying another HTC until they fully unlock bootloaders (S-ON Unlocked doesn't cut it, IMO). If they have the sound quality they claim they have...I don't know...<prays that the dev community gets behind it and hacks it into having S-OFF).

As much as I think quad-core is revolutionary for a smartphone, how much power do you need?

Quad cores come in various flavors and they can be set up biased to various profiles - example, just as a dual core can outrun a single and save power at the same time, this one could be more about power savings.

I don't care if they put a team of nano-hamsters in a cage in mine, so long as it runs quick and smooth and gets long battery life. :)

lol. Yeah, as long as it gets good battery it could be a quin-core. But, my thing is are people going to try and run Crysis on these new phones? lol But, that would require the correct graphics card would it?

Well, there are the rumors of being able to connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to an Android phone and run desktop linux on it while Android is still running. Something like that would probably be better handled on a quadcore rather than a dualcore.

Actually, sending the Linux desktop to a laptop via VNC, and editing apps and pictures in Linux while still using all of Android on the phone (and using it as a phone, talking) works really great already on a dual core. I'm sure a quad couldn't hurt.

Everyone might have thought, why did I start such a thread about something I can't afford. FYI I like to keep my hands busy when I relieve myself LOL JK

Yeah, I had that setup on my phone, as well. But most didn't and I was just trying to justify quad core in my own mind :)

A bit off topic, but a quad core with same or almost same clockspeed is not twice or almost twice as fast as a dual core. It doesn't work that way. Also considering that a laptop uses an x86 chip, means that the dual core on your laptop will be around just as powerful as the quad core on the HTC due to difference in chip architecture, and likely even more powerful. In some ways, a 1Ghz single core x86 chip found on desktops is even more powerful than the 1.2Ghz dual cores ARM on phones. a 1Ghz single core x64 chip would completely own any dual core ARM in existence AFAIK.

However I do think you need a new laptop. LOL.

As for quad core on phones, I don't think its important. I'm perfectly happy at single core already. Maybe when they create an artificial need for me, I'll bite dual core phones.

I have grown to love using phones with large screen. I wish the One X was coming to Sprint, but if not...I'll wait for the next best thing.

Anyone having doubts on the battery life (1800mAH) according with its screen size and processing capabilities? It also has a imaging chip to power
