HTC one XL

Hi.
New to HTC from Apple. (so I have a lot of dumb questions)
I just got an HTC one xl from telstra. It came with JB installed.
My question is about the signal stenght bars. On my phone it sits at one bar all the time, until I make or receive a call the the bars go up to 3 or 4.
My question is; is this standard? Anyone else have this issue?

Welcome to the forums, Mr Pip57! :hello:
Generally speaking (and I'm not too familiar with Telstra), calls are made over a separate signal than 3G/4G so you may see a boost in 1X (which is used for calls and SMS).
