HTC Removing FPS Limitation by future Software Update!

Saw this reply to an email inquiry regarding the FPS cap issue over at AC:

I just got email from HTC:

Hi, I am Danielle and I would be happy to assist you today. You were wondering about the cap on 30 FPS on your HTC EVO 4G. Since this Android device employs a unique HDMI output to deliver video in HD quality to an external display, the hardware graphics driver interface uses significant resources for the HDMI output and therefore displays graphics at 30 frames per second on the integrated display. It
 
That title is also little misleading. The email states:

The 30 FPS is set but we have decided to look into the possibility of overcoming this limitation by software changes.

You're assuming it will be removed by a future update, which the email actually doesn't state. It only states they are looking into overcoming this. They may not provide an update.
 
Well that's definitely a change in tone from HTC. Seems significant or at least note worthy. A rep would not be able to say this if they weren't actually "looking into it." I'm kind of surprised that they would hint to this unless there was something coming down the pike.

The last thing HTC wants to do is give a customer's hopes up.
 
The EVO was never built with gaming in mind. If that's what people want then they have the wrong phone. EOS

EVO2 for gaming.
 
I hope that means with all of our complaining to HTC (including me), the squeaky wheel is getting the grease!
 
I am trying to find it but I remember reading somewhere that HTC had found that they could not fix this (Even though XDA had) precisely because of the HDMI out. I know there was a thread on here about that as well.
 
If you are willing to root your phone and give up on the use of hdmi out, this has been fixed by the XDA guys... for those that want maximum responsiveness there is an overclocking support as well!
 
misleading thread title = fail. this "news" is also old as dirt. a better more accurate thread title would have been "sprint possibly lifting 30 fps cap with software update" but instead you take out the key word and try to pass it off as fact. :rolleyes:

Hopefully HTC realize that most people, most of the time, aren't using the HDMI port and are happy to enable/disable it (and, therefore, enable/disable the 30 fps cap) as they need it. It could even be an automatic switch based on whether or not you have a cable plugged in.
 
Besides this being extremely old news as others have mentioned, I feel like the OP didn't even read the article that he posted.

Why would you title the thread that HTC is removing the cap and then post an article that does not say that at all.

READ PEOPLE! And if you do not understand what something says, ask for help but do not post false information!

Oh Agreed. i was just stating that I had read somewhere that HTC said they couldn't and wouldn't change it. Still can't find it though so it is possible I dreamed it lol
 
why are so many people being Aholes? acting like you're 10 years old running to the mailbox for a secret decoder ring only to realize it was coupons for ovaltine. dude got an email that left him excited. not everyone has perused every thread on every topic in here.
i read through several related topics today and NEVER once saw anyone comment on how they had read or heard HTC was even considering trying to remove the cap. i did read like mentioned by another above that it had been said they had no intention and felt no pressure to do so.
the fact that it came from htc directly is encouraging to me.
i've considered rooting and continue researching the idea, but right now i'm not willing to give up either my camera (a major reason for buying the phone) NOR my HDMI out so that i can overclock and improve graphics. not to mention the risk of bricking, voided warranty, and apps i like being un accessible to me due to the root.

then again.... it would be a convenient leak to get people talking about some pipe dream solution instead of an imposed, and hated limitation. i guess i'm half optimist, or half pessimist... depends on your perspective :)

Ok chill out take a deep breath count to 10. I hate the limitation as much as yourself. In fact if you hate it so much you can go here and starr.

But when an OP has a sensational headline as "HTC removing FPS limitation by future software update" what do you expect people to do or say? I for one was temporarily so happy that I almost choked on my Mickey D's double cheese burger :eek:. I was like, HTC conceding WOW. But when I read the email I soon realized that it was just an assumption predicated on the OP's optimism. Which he entirely has his right to feel however he wants. But so do we. No need to call anyone A-Holes when we were lured in got are hopes so high and got nothing but a glass half full interpretation. So lets just all get along hold hands and sing, "We are family". Android family that is. :)
