I suspect that no one has answered because they are all based upon personal preferences. Do the research and decide for yourself what is best for how you use the mini-computer.

So far, my rezound is stock. However, I want two things. A mobile WiFi Hotspot (not an adhoc one, but a real one) and I want the ability to record calls (not through the speakerphone but I want a digital copy of the audio data).

The only way to accomplish those things is to install a custom ROM. I haven't done that since the old WinMo 6700 days, so I've been reading up on it.

There are dozens, if not hundreds, of ROMs to choose from. Also, if I'm not mistaken, you can get a "kitchen" and "cook" your own ROM.

I'm not a guy who wants a lot of bling or trendy stuff. I don't need bleeding edge. I want stable and reliable. I want it to work dammit. I'm ok with Gingerbread because its stable. I will eventually go ICS, but until all the BS is worked out, I don't need it on my primary phone. (And I don't have time to mess around with it on a toy).

So I have been looking at Scott's CleanROM. It seems to accomplish the two things I want. It seems to be stable. People have said good things about Scott. So that's my plan.

But those are my needs and wants. Yours may differ. Stock may work just fine for you. Basic rooting and removal of bloat and installation of adhoc Wifi might be fine for you. Or you may want to go nuts and install the latest ICS. I dunno.

I love rooting. It gives you the control over a phone that you should be granted automatically.

Freezing bloatware, ad blocking and other functionality that is against forum rules to discuss make it worth its weight in gold.

I love rooting. However ive returned to stock just because it's a hassle dealing with Roms. They are nice and all but having to manually check in to be sure your up to date on your ROM is irritating. So is wiping and having to set your phone up all over. It's nice to just have the phone and enjoy it. lol
