HTC Sensation xe on o2

Hi guys,

So tomorrow I'm finally making the change from pay as you go, to pay monthly. I've chosen to go for a HTC Sensation XE.

Before I commit myself to this contract tomorrow, there's a few questions I need answering.

I'm going for the

Hi Aaron, welcome to AF! :)

I don't have the XE, but I'll take a pop at the questions I can.

1. It depends, if you want the phone there and then, you'll need to do it in store. As far as I'm aware, they'll offer better deals online which aren't available in store.

2. iPlayer is temperamental, 4oD should be fine, not so sure about 5oD though as I've never used it.

3. Yes, but it would need to be a capacitive one. Your fingers will be fine though.

4. Can't comment, it seems pretty decent.

5. Yeah, generally you'll need proof of address and a photo id. A Bank card, statement and passport should suffice.

Hope that helps.

Hi Aaron, I got my Sensation XE from an O2 store near me, and I would have been able to walk out with it on the day if they'd got my upgrade date correct! It's a great phone and I didn't need any ID, they asked me my mobile number and my security question and then accessed my account. I took my ID anyway, though, to get the age restriction lifted at the same time.

It's a great phone, but I'm viewing it in comparison to my old iPhone 3, so to me it feels fantastic but existing android users will have their own opinions. The music player and headphones are great, the sound is amazing, especially on songs with deep bass or subtle harmonies. Play around with the different sized rubber earbuds (you get 5 sizes with the middle one on already) to find the one that's comfy for you.

I too am looking to get a Sensation XE, I have heard unbranded phones have some issues with signal etc, is there any truth?

I've never had any issues with signal and I'm unbranded. There could potentially be a bit of truth in that as the carrier could tweak the radio to work better with their network, but like I say, being unbranded has never been an issue for me.

Ah!! Which Network are you on El Presidente?

Orange using an unbranded Desire HD.

Were you talking specifically about the XE or just phones in general?

A bit of both really... I currently have a Blackberry, moving over to a Android, and I've narrowed it down to a Sensation XE, so I suppose I'm just weighing up an unbranded vs. branded xe... Although happy to consider other phones...

The XE is a good phone, I'd a mate with the original Sensation and he loves it, the XE adds Beats Audio which adds to it as the speakers on the original were pretty poor. Were there any other you had your eyes on?

If it was me, I'd certainly go unbranded, there's less of the potentially "bloaty" network software and if you do decide to root, unbranded handsets (certainly HTC's) are much easier to do.

I'm a non-conformist type of guy, so def. not the Samsung S2, the other alternatives are the Motorola Razr or the new Sony Xperia, but I like the UI on the Sensation.

Re branded or not, I don't want thestuff the network puts on, and also I want updates quickly, so I thought unbranded is thwe way to go, however, I'm just concerned something won't work well... e.g. signal / 3g etc... Also, if I go for unbranded, how do I make sure I get my settings corrrect?

Sense (that's what HTC call their UI) is certainly the best of the manufacturer overlays so I agree with you there. I also don't think you can fault the build quality of HTC's compared to the other brands you've mentioned.

Unbranded should just work straight out of the box and if it's O2 you're with, you can even send a blank text to 2020 (I think) and they'll send the settings to your phone via SMS.

If they don't, we're always on had to give advice too!

I wasthinking about going onto the O2 network as they have the unlimited Openzone usage as well, and I thought that was a niceplus!! Thanks for your help!

Is it BT they use? I have very little success in connecting to the FON/Openzone hotspots (on the flip side I know other folk who have no problems).

That being said, I know O2's 3G coverage is pretty good so that might be moot.
