Help HTC Sense 3.0

nickyw_uk

Lurker
I recently installed the latest HTC Sense on my Wildfire S and I absolutely HATE the lock screen. It's a stupid ring that you have to slide up. The lock screen I had previously was a simple slide down one. How can I get back to my old HTC Sense? I think I was running 2.1. I don't want to root the phone. Thanks.

There are few apps out there that allow you to customise the lock screen, widgetlocker being one of the better ones. It has custom sliders, including the default Android sliders and even the iPhone slider.

It's a couple of quid, but well worth it IMO.

Many thanks for your reply. I have tried Widget Locker on my Wildfire S and after unlocking the lock screen, the phone goes black, so I don't think it works on a Wildfire S. I shall have a look for a different app. Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean by "recently installed the latest HTC Sense." The Wildfire S has only ever had Sense 2.1. If you recently upgraded your ROM from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 you'll get Sense 2.1 again, but with the 3.0 lock screen. I'm assuming that this is what you did.

Unless you root your phone, it would be very difficult to roll back to 2.3.3, so basically you are stuck with the lock ring and apps like Widgetlocker.

Other than the look of the lock, the only real difference is the direction of motion--up versus down. I hear people complain about the lock ring but honestly I don't understand what the big difference is.

Probably, just like me and many others, acepted an 'update' without knowing that this would be the stupid result!

I accepted this update thinking it would be good to be on the latest fw. How wrong I was! I too absolutely HATE this stupid lock screen. I was totally happy with my Wildfire before this update and completely satisfied with Android.

Now.. I am looking round for (and I swore I would never do it..) an eyefone. Just because I don't have the choice of how MY lock screen works.

Other than the look of the lock, the only real difference is the direction of motion--up versus down.

The lock screen now means I can't hit the power button when I've finished doing something and then immediately realise I forgot to do something else and then just hit the button again. I now have to swipe the stupid ring again.

When a call comes in and I drag the phone icon shortcut into the ring to answer, it goes straight to speakerphone!

I use my phone as an alarm clock and when it goes off in the morning I now can't just reach over and drag downwards anywhere on the screen, I have to specifically find the alarm icon and dismiss it. Have you ever tried hitting an icon less than a centimetre square at 6am at arms reach on the bedside table?

This update is aimed purely and squarely at the superficial end of the market at people who want nothing more than to play music, look at pictures and check their facebook pages. People who are totally concerned at 'how it looks' rather than 'how it works'.

I want my phone back how it was when I bought it!!!

I am a software engineer by trade and every other system I have ever worked on has always had the option of rolling back an update if it was unsuitable or unsatisfactory.
Not the htc, apparently.

..honestly I don't understand what the big difference is.
There are plenty of people out here who don't. A google search will show you that.

If anybody out there has a PRE-updated htc wildfire S who wants to trade it for mine then I'll willing swap with you. I'll even pay both postal charges!

And I'll make damn sure I don't accept any more updates as well!

Time out folks. I've just deleted a number of harsh, totally un-needed posts and I'd like the bickering to stop, now ;)

I can see some are annoyed with the update, but that's not the fault of anyone on this forum yet they seem to be taking their anger out on the members here who are actually happy with it? That's not how we roll on AF, we attack issues, not each other. If you've issue with something someone has posted, hit report and we'll look into it.

To answer the apparent question, if people are looking to roll back, there is no way of officially doing that without voiding your warranty. However, I believe you can contact HTC and they will do it for you. Whether they charge or not I'm unsure, but it's highly probable they will.

If anyone else has any other suggestions, fire on but if the bickering starts again, I'm closing the thread.

Sorry, I didn't think mine was harsh or offensive. I just said that I was happy with the lock screen and that it was worth having the latest update because of the improved memory

When using Google search and results provided by a Google search, the text is overlaid on top of other text, tabs are overlaid on other tabs, i am unable to use web pages the way they were meant to be.

Question; will the updates coming solve these issues or just get looked over again?

(using HTC Amaze 4G)
HTC G2 retired

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

well I love the lock ring! I drag it all over the screen if I`m bored!!:)
However like the above I dont like the drag to dismiss or snooze on the alarm, or to amswer a call.
Seems sometimes I have to touch and hold for a few secs to get the drag icon to respond, v annoying at 6.45am!

after getting a web page up on your phone, one of the problem pages I had with was (PhoneDog) hit Menu, Then More, Then Settings scroll down to Landscape-only display, Check it on and voila! no more half banners and web pages, and Signed in on Googles home page is what it should be gone now are the Text over text and links over links...Yeah!:D
