Help HTC Sense Crash / Loading Issue

I wish i would have researched better before getting this phone. Love the phone, but the issue is getting old. I love the sense layout, but i guess i better go ahead and try another launcher. Any advice on a good one for free? Thanks guys!

Ugh, this is happening with my 1 day old phone. It started when I downloaded Launcher Pro, and even though I uninstalled it, it's still happening. Unfortunately, I purchased my phone through Amazon, so I think I may have to send it back there if I can't resolve this. I can't remember if I tried a re-start, so I'll try that.

All Evo Shifts running Gingerbread will do this. Installing another launcher should fix it. Once you download another launcher, make sure you open it and set it to your default or Sense will remain your default launcher and you'll keep getting the loading screen.

I personally use Go Launcher EX and I love it. I have no intentions to go back to Sense, even if they get the issues fixed.

For those who feel froggy, rooting is still the best fix. Once rooted you can flash any number of roms that can eliminate the loading issue. You can even still run sense if you so choose.

I can't really link from my phone and my PC is down, but if you search here in the all things root section all the info needed is there...

My phone popped up with a software update and it hasn't crashed since I installed that... did other people get the update?

Wasn't notified but I just checked for the update, found it and installed it. I've opened and closed a few apps that are usually followed by Sense reloading and so far, no problems.

I e-mailed HTC about this and actually received a decent reply. I'm posting the relevant section:

If you have any type of third party Task Killer app installed on the device, please remove it and perform a soft reset of your device as apps of this nature can have an adverse effect on the Android OS. If the issue still persists, please proceed with the Safe Mode/Reset steps.

Please place your device in Safe Mode for a 24 hour period as it will disable any non-essential software installed on the device. If the issue still persists in Safe Mode then please proceed with the reset steps. If this is not apparent in Safe Mode, then please start uninstalling third party apps until the conflict app is found.

Enter Safe Mode:

1. With the device turned off Slide out the Keyboard
2. Turn the device on
3. Press and hold the

After I downloaded Angry Birds, I did have a crash again. I've re-started since then and have not played that game and no crashes (actually, I guess I technically did a soft reset, since I took the battery out to put in a bigger SD card). So I think that app (perhaps the size) is definitely a culprit- but if you re-start after playing, it should help (or maybe soft reset).

If it keeps happening, I will try the reset thing, thanks!

I read an article about what the problem might be, but can't seem to Google find it again. The diagnosis in the article suggested that I shouldn't move apps to the sdcard since there is a memory bug when the Shift launches apps from sdcard. I'm running Go Launcher still since it has a feature to force staying in memory which helps, but not moving apps to sdcard has help a bunch. I'm not getting near as many homescreen reloads when I leave other apps. I'd try just removing the sdcard altogether, but too many apps I run need to use it.

BTW, according to a Sprint moderator on Sprint's forums, they are supposedly working on an update to fix this. So here's to wishing...Sprint Community: HTC Sense Issue Consolidation Thread

I was browsing around to see if there were any new tip or tricks with the Sense loading issue. I came across this.... Not sure if it will work, but i will try it out.
Also here is a link to a site, that will tell you how to do it. It's not hard, but you never know who may need help.:)

Evo Shift Loading
I had the same issue on my HTC EVO 4G. I read and followed many of the instructions posted here and in other posts. What solved my problem (found on another post) was to download "Spare Parts" and set in Activity/Process managements to "Normal". The problem went away. The behavior is also consistent with the memory above 100 MB which I could not get (short of gutting my phone of apps) until running Spare Parts.
Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure my Droid Incredible is experiencing the same problem described above. I've seen the various fixes including the temp root fix. I've never rooted my phone, so before I go through the trouble can someone give me a warm fuzzy that the same instructions for an Evo Shift running 2.3 will work for my Incredible running 2.3.4? Or is there a better way to fix this? Incidentally I'm also experiencing the slow down discussed in other forums. Everything stutters now, unlock, screen movement, phone answer and hangup and playing MP3's. All seemed to start happening after the update to 2.3. I guess smart phones have joined the ranks of Windows PC's now for reliability. :(

it has been awhile since the last update from HTC and thet's when veryone started having this crashing/loading issue. I called them, wrote them, about 4 times. They say they know about the issue and do not have a fix for it as of yet and has no idea when. They themselves told me to use a 3rd party loader. I tried Go Launcher. problem solved. but i like the HTC layout better and why should I not be able to use HTC Sense loader when I bought an HTC phone. It is totally ridiculous. I wrote them again today and I am waiting to hear back. I will not stop until the have a patch or replace my phone. the newer phones with the new sense software doesn't have this issue. Any body find out anything further?

Sense crashing seemed to go away after I got the upgrade a couple/few weeks ago, but it gradually started creeping back and crashing and reloading after nearly every app I tried to close. The upgrade somehow messed up my current Launcher Pro settings, so I uninstalled it and re-installed it last night and am in the process of getting my phone back to my liking. No crashes etc since I started using Launcher Pro again .... really no intention of going back to Sense, as I like LP just fine.

This problem has gotten SO bad for me (it got 10X worse after a hard reset last month). I'm ready to jump ship- what launcher does everyone else like? I didn't care for Launcher Pro... Thanks!

Incidentally, I found on the Sprint forums what seems to be the most logical reason for this issue- this was posted June 29, 2011, so almost a whole year ago and there is still no resolution. Absolutely unacceptable.:

Post 24- Houston, we have an unofficial answer...
The Sense "closure issue" is do to the advanced memory managment of Android 2.3 (http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.3-highlights.html) and it's Improved Power Management feature. The IPM system takes a more active role in managing apps that are keeping the device awake for too long or that are consuming CPU while running in the background. By managing such apps — closing them if appropriate — the system helps ensure best possible performance and maximum battery life.
The system also gives the user more visibility over the power being consumed by system components and running apps. The Application settings provides an accurate overview of how the battery is being used, with details of the usage and relative power consumed by each component or application.

What is happening, usually when gaming or browsing the internet, is that Sense is not 'active' during these times - think of apps that take more than 30 seconds away from the home screen - and Gingerbread kills it off thinking that it's not an 'active' app to conserve power and cpu cycles. What needs to be done, is that HTC needs to recode Sense to Gingerbread as a non-killable task. That will solve that issue pretty quickly. This wasn't an issue with 2.2 since it does not have the IPM that 2.3 does.

Currently, there is no on device fix to this issue - and for those suffering from the wall paper issue, try using smaller images - the 2.3 program loads all images in 32bit (2.2 allowed 16bit images) and it is probably having a hard time finding memory to load them. Try a stock wallpaper for a few days and see if that eliminates the problem.
So, long story short - 2.3 broke Sense (and most other replacement home screens) and there's not much that can be done until they can exempt apps from the IPM list.

My Rezound crashes every couple of minutes. But I'm used to it - my 5th aandroid under this 2 year Verizon contract. 5 months till I'm free at allastb free at last - necver another Droid h with twenty second lag time (resulting in the typos you see here).

Turn off the Weather+clock widget's weather animations. It soluted the problem for my HTC Sensation (Android 4.0.3 & Sense 3.6).

I hope it was helpful!
