Help HTC Sense keeps force closing

Well-Known Member
HTC Sense keeps force closing. Most of the time it's when I turn on the phone but sometimes it happens when I switch to Sense GUI by pressing the Home button or exiting an app back to Sense. So no real pattern yet.

Sometimes I get a pop-up saying HTC Sense has force closed and sometimes it just opens to a white screen with an HTC logo and a wait icon an eventually opens to Sense.

On a few occasions the reset of HTC Sense also fails and it goes into a loop failing every time until I turn off the phone and turn it back on, then it's fine.

Is there a way to identify what is causing this?

Any known solutions?

My Incredible is rooted but mostly stock.

So you are using another launcher too? (besides sense) if you are I'd try uninstalling that first and see if the issue stops. It's hard to narrow this issue down to a single cause. There has been quite a few reports of similar issues but not really any common root cause. Factory reset or reloading the android OS would be your most drastic solutions.

I think I found my issue. The Stock "Stocks" program from verizon which is just a tweeked version of yahoo financial was crashing. Yahoo Financial had a new vesrion but my market app didn't alert to the update I think because of verizon's packaging. I suspect they made a change on the server side that broke the old version. Installing a new version of "Yahoo Financial" seems to have fixed the issue.
