Help Htc sync 3.0.5511 for evo 4g (sprint) | 02.10.2011

Thanks Drex!

(I'd imagine it'd be people that don't want their information stored on Google's cloud system)
HTC Mobile Phone Support - HTC EVO? 4G (Sprint) - Downloads

What were you alluding to there? Is there a specific phone app, setting, or process you were referring to that is on "the cloud" by default that HTC Sync has a work around for?

I installed the old HTC Sync so that my computer would recognize my Evo for file transfers. For some reason it wouldn't recognize it as a drive/storage media until I did. I noticed in Windows task manager that it is constantly polling the system for my phone to be plugged in wasting computer memory (even causes hiccups and the blue Windows 7 circle to flash every 2 seconds). I force close it every start up I don't need it. Needless to say I hope this new version fixes that problem.

P.S. I HATE the term "cloud" when referring to computers. I seriously think it is one of the most stupid and worthless words that has ever caught on. I understand and appreciate the idea of online storage, to a point, but the term that was coined for it is utter garbage! I hold ill will towards whomever came up with that one.[/rant]

Not really alluding to anything. I just know that there are some people that don't use Google to keep their contacts stored because Google contacts (via gmail) is saved on a cloud system and there are still many that don't want to risk that information getting out, so they prefer hard-wire sync through HTC Sync and a PC. Even though it's more hassle, cuz it's data transfer through hard wire (vs. OTA), it does provide them a little more sense of security.

Contacts, thats what I figured. Yeah, I'm one of those people that doesn't want any personal info on the web anywhere (our security and livelihoods are at so much risk, and I think most people either don't notice or don't care). But even I used my Gmail to sync it once, then promptly backed them up and removed them from my account. Google just made it so nice and easy.

Yeah. I really like the convenience of having the cloud backup through google, but can understand without a doubt why people don't like having the contacts on google's cloud.

I used HTC Sync the first time I got my phone, but switched to google OTA after that because the initial incarnation of HTC Sync didn't quite work right for me. I realized afterwards that the very first HTC Sync had to be installed and all the updates had to be installed in order as they were released.

After I did that, it worked fine, but I had already been doing OTA Google contact refresh, that I never bothered to revert back to my old ways (plus HTC Sync was a resource hog for my cpu at work).
