Help HTC Sync 3 doesn't recognize device - Pl. help

Ok... So, this is what I did - fiddled around with the phone a bit before finally deciding to install HTC Sync.

Downloaded the latest version (3.x) from HTC's website. The software and drivers installed without a problem.

The device, however, was not recognized by Sync. Try as I might.

Tinkered with the settings in the handset, too - eg. prompt to choose function (I don't even get a prompt when I connect the USB!), checked debugger mode, et al.

The phone continues to charge; and that's the only thing that happens. :confused:

I am running Windows XP (32 bit), SP3. (While downloading the software from HTC's website, I had chosen the option 'Asia 1'. I did try downloading the file multiple times; choosing a different option each time - Europe 1, 2, Asia 2 - to no avail...)

I tried repeating the process on my friend's system (Win 7, 64-bit). Again, no use.

I went a step further - by trying to install the older version (2.0.28). Found it on the internet.

Again, it was all in vain. :mad:

I must add here that I was not able to install the software from the memory card (2GB). Reason? I formatted it by mistake (from the settings menu in the Desire) before even accessing it for the first time (via my laptop). But I don't see why this should cause a problem. Or, am I at fault here..? :(

I'd really appreciate any form of help in this regard.

Try using a different usb port or if that fails reboot your pc,
also if you are using vista or win 7 did you remember to install the program by clicking right mouse & selecting install as administrator?

But try turning off windows firewall first :)
 
Just thought I'd chip in to say am having no luck getting HTC synch 3.0 to recognise my device either... have disabled firewalls... stopped AntiVirus running... installed and run as administrator... started in safe mode to ensure no clashes with other software... tried other usb ports the works... was desperate to get sync working to enable me to produce a gold card in order to debrand and update to 2.2 as I'm on orange and their upgrade process is turning into a farce...

If anyone can suggest any other solutions it would be great!!

Naah, dint work. :/ Will try it on my friends laptop again, later in the day.

Thanks buddy, will go through the link. And yeah - I did disable my internet security. (Kaspersky 7)

Ah... Good luck to you too, mate! My device is unbranded, thankfully. :)

Restarting and removing battery may help.

Otherwise do what I did. Uninstall the irritating HTC Sync 3.0 and install the HTC Sync 2.04

I also had problems connecting the phone as a diskdrive to my desktop. Sometimes it worked, then if I tried to install HTC Sync it didn't work anymore...

Solution: on your desktop, go to Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager (you can leave the usb cable from the phone connected to the computer). There you see your 'Universial Serial Bus Controllers'. One might be with a yellow exclamation mark. Right-click on that one and select 'Uninstall'.

This might not solve it directly. Then Uninstall the last 'USB Root Hub' in the list, then the second but last. After 1 or 2 uninstalls, suddenly new hardware is recognized again and it installs successfully!

Hope it works for other people as well! It seems it has something to do with interrupts, too many different hardware installed on the same USB port(s).

For now though, this is how I get it to work each time it fails to detect - restart BOTH, the laptop and the Desire.

*sigh*
