Help HTC Sync 3 memory problem

Using HTC Sync 3 I get the error message that my device doesn't have enough free memory. Is this internal memory on the Desire or SD card space? The latter has around 7GB free and there is about 21MB free on the phone.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

I thought we were still on 2.0.x for the desire? HTC website only has it for the wildfire....

You can download it from various sources and it appears to work fine for others.
