Help htc sync aaaargh

Ok i am at the end of my tether. I have tried everything and still cant get it to work. I have an HTC Wildfire S, and brand new Compaq laptop, and after trying to sync i get the same message 'failed to mount/unmount storage card'

I have tried mounting the card myself, and have been able to transfer media to the phone that way, but surely i must be able to get HTC Sync to work?????

Any suggestions welcome, please feel free to talk to me like a complete idiot, I just want a solution!!!

Use MyPhoneExplorer (Google it). I use this for syncing contacts and calendar from Outlook, and for syncing music (22GB of MP3 files). On both a Desire HD and the wife's WS.

App on the phone and client on the PC. Plus an English speaking forum for help. Oh, and no need for a cable as it works better over wifi.
