Root HTC Sync doesn't recognise phone?

As title really, whenever I launch sync, it just displays the message "No device connected."
Phone is the Desire HD running 2.2 and the PC is running Sync 3.0 on Windows 7.

I got it to work briefly last night after repeated attempts, but today it's not working at all.
Any ideas?

After 24Hrs of struggling I've solved it!

Simply plugging into a different USB slot on the PC seems to resolve it
Anyway, all's well now...
