htc sync problem

I synced my contacts with windows contacts some time ago with HTC Sync 2.something.

Now i have the latest version, i cant sync contacts. When i click on People, both on and off are disabled. Calendar is the same. The other are set to off, but although the button is there it wont let me turn them off.

I understand most people dont rate HTC Sync, is there any other program which wil sync with Windows contacts (not outlook contacts)

Google 'MyPhoneExplorer'. Client on the PC and app on the phone. All free and it works.
