Help Htc sync

Ok I'm not the most technically savy person. I want to sync calendars from my desktop to my EVO and be able to put music on my phone. So I downloaded HTC Sync on my desktop but it doesn't recognize my phone and when my phone tries to connect it ends up saying disconnected. I also go into my computer to find my phone to try to drag and drop songs but it isn't recognizing my phone.

I've rebooted both my phone and computer and same thing. Any thoughts on why or what I can do.

do you have it set up for "HTC sync" in the USB options on the phone?
