HTC Update available 01 12 2010

My phone tells me I have an official HTC update available (30Mb) which offers additional features and stability for 2.2

I am not near wifi at the mo so can't do it - has anyone else got this?

Is it, dare I ask, the new Sense UI?

Unbranded Desire here, and nothing here, is this the update from a couple of months ago?? :confused:

Right, all done.... and....

It says my phone has been updated to version 2.33.161.2

It's now counting slowly from 0 - 100% doing something...

Finished! Ok, it's offering me the introductory stuff you get when the phone is new (skip that)

And the news is um, well, I can't see anything new :(

I'll keep looking though

So just a stability update, no amazing new features? :( aww, what a let down!

Hang on though; 720p recording and playback is MUCH improved, still a little wobbly but no choppiness at all; I previously suffered stutters through recording and playback, now there are none!

Rotation sorted out too, since 2.2 mine has been slow to change between portrait and landscape, but now it's immediate.

Shame it's not new Sense, but some improvements nonetheless
 
It wasn't obvious it was via Vodafone, it had HTC stamped all over the update alert, in fact at no time during installation did it mention VF

if yours was 2.33 and mine was 2.17 am i to assume that i have a other update to get?
 
I don't know, the update came out of the blue, I put my screen on and the update alert was there waiting for me to accept it.

It's certainly improved performance in those areas though and the boost in HD recording/playback (whilst still not perfect) is very welcome.

What is your full ROM version? This update is for Vodafone UK only and no one else

EDIT: You're on Orange UK so this update is nothing to do with you
 
I'm on Orange UK as well and I'm being offered the 2.17.61.3(4.76mb) update.
A couple of questions. I rooted using unrevoked 3 and was wondering - is this update from Orange or from HTC? How do I tell? and will it brick/break my handset?

Anyone got any ideas.

It's from HTC but for Orange handsets. The vendor code is how you can tell. Unbranded HTC Desires have the code x.xx.405.x

Phone operators have their own version, e.g. Orange UK x.xx.61.x, Vodafone UK x.xx.161.x, T-Mobile UK x.xx.110.x

You can't apply an OTA to a rooted phone - well, you can but chances are it'll go pear shaped if you do
 
I got the same last night as well and am on ORANGE but I went through the whole procedure and at the end it told me I needed 25mb which is SUCH a pain as I only have 15mb available. Over half my apps are on SD I guess I need to go through and delete a load unless anyone has any better ideas? Apps stored on my SD also seem to use some phone memory which is annoying.
 
i am on Vf as well,got the message last week but was in work without wifi so i cancled the update, how do i get it back?

I am also on Orange (for my past life sins), not rooted, and had the same notification, literally just now. Updated and not noticed much new, although it appears that things are a little smoother and quicker, but it could just be wishful thinking :confused:

Update didn't mess with anything either i.e. my set up via Launcher Pro Plus, which was a relief as I have my phone looking awesome right now. It was definately HTC and not Orange though. Also noticed that Mini Info is telling me my phone memory hasn't changed maybe sd has though.
 
It's from HTC but only for Orange, although this thread was about the recent Vodafone OTA update and has been hijacked by Orange users ;)
