HTC Velocity Telstra 4G

Hi,
Just got myself a HTC Velocity 4g on a telstra plan. Couldnt find a thread on the velocity so I assumed post in here?

Anyway. I love the phone, but when I get text messages my screen doesn't light up with a notification. I get a notification tone, the notification LED flashes but my screen stays off.
Phone calls and missed calls light up. But general notifications and texts don't.
I have spoken to HTC via their online chat help. And they got me to check settings to make sure it wasn't that. Then set one of their phones up with same settings and theirs did light up. I have tried a factory reset but still no avail.
I am running android 4.0.3 if that's of any help but does anyone else have this issue or is it a function which the phone just does not do?

Thanks.
Scott. :)

I'm on 4.0.3 on the Galaxy Nexus and I don't have a popup either but that appears to be by design. That said, my version is essentially pure vanilla so if you have a carrier skin, they may have added it in by design. But I use a combination of Lightflow and SMS Popup to turn my screen on for texts. There's also an app called popup notifier that will popup notify for other notification types but I had a few issues with it on my phone and went back to SMS popups only. Not sure if any of these apps are available for your phone but just sharing my experience with a similar issue.
