Help HTC Weather Widget broken???

^ I wonder if the problem is related to a timeout issue with the weather service that the HTC Weather Widget uses and/or some app on your phone conflicting with the widget?

Mine hasn't worked properly for weeks. It picks up the weather for a few locations as I travel around the country but, on the whole, it doesn't show any weather or just shows "Current Location" or "United Kingdom".

Just thought his might help, my other halfs desire is now having this problem, only saying current location or united kingdom.

She has had the phone for 10 days, it is on orange, she has downloaded no apps/programs at all (mainly due to the fact she hasn't sorted a gmail account out!), and only hing she has done with the phone is add a POP hotmail account.

Just thought that info might help, to show links between apps/widgets and this problem.

I had this response when I complained to HTC

Thanks for your email. The issue has been caused by a recent update that has automatically downloaded and installed onto your device. Here at HTC we are extremely aware of the issues which the update to your handset has caused. Rest assured we are doing our very best to deliver and update to fix and address these issues soon. Currently there is no release date for the fix, but it will be avilable to you soon, and will install either OTA or downloadable to your PC to install that way. For now, we at HTC are very sorry for your problem, and will do our very best to roll out this update to help resolve your issues as soon as we can. Thanks for contacting HTC. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again. Best regards, Ashley HTC

So I guess we just wait and see really.... over to you ,HTC.....

Mine seems a little improved since installing Froyo.
It now reports my location as Surrey Heath (which is quite a big area) instead of my village. But it's an improvement on United Kingdom.
Similary with work, it now shows Hillingdon (I work at Heathrow) instead of London.
Perhaps it's improving in gradual steps a bit like zooming in on a google map! :-)

I'm in sunny Cardiff at the moment and the widget is working perfectly even changing to various areas of the city as I move aroun

I find this whole thread really funny - why do people worry about an app that tells them what they already know? Or do you need HTC to confirm that it really is the sunshine warming the top of your head?

But hang on - maybe there's money in this. Perhaps I can develop an app to tell people it's day or night. Or that the world's still going round. Anything that's bleeding obvious really.

You have taken my post out of context - I made the point of the weather location data changing as I moved around Cardiff to illustrate the fact that the widget was now working correctly and that the resolution was very good and in stark contrast to the "current location United Kingdom" many (including myself) were seeing.

I agree I don't need my desire to tell me something I can look out of the window to establish but it is a bit of fun and it does give you the weather for the next 4 days for you current location which surely has some value.

and... the widget tell you if it's night or day already - again not an absolute life saver but a bit of fun nevertheless ;)

HTC show the app on almost every promotional picture they produce. So if it's not going to work then why do they put it on the phone at all?

It's not really very helpful for it to constantly tell me that I'm in the United Kingdom. However when it works properly and changes location as I move around the country then I like that :) Non Desire users are even more easily impressed by such a feature ;)

Well it has never worked for me in Portsmouth until today. I work in a windows less office so now at least I have a rough idea what is going on outside.

My weather widget has been broke ever since the 2.2 upgrade 2 days ago. It keeps going blank and comes back briefly when I turn the phone off and on again but then goes blank again

Same here... In order to kick it back into life for a while you need to remove the widget and readd it. Usually lasts a day or 2 before it breaks again.

Mine appears to be working today! I'm nit sure how long it'll stay working though.

I purchased my desire about two months ago. Up until two days prior the weather widget was working fine. Like others in this thread it now no longer shows the weather, instead quoting "no weather data available". Refreshing the 'current location' doesn't address the issue. Interestingly the phone shows my location correctly as Auckland and I can manually add Auckland as a location and the weather is available but just not as my current location. Very frustrating.

Location preferences are correct and nothing has been installed on the device recently. I also have emailed HTC but my experiences with their support desk to date have been close to shocking with 'hard reset' the default recommendation. If anyone with this issue is any closer to solving this issue i'm very interested in your thoughts.

I have this weather widget issue, on HTC desire, Orange UK. I raised it with HTC, got some lame answers about it might be a problem and if so HTC would release a fix, I replied with 'You work for HTC, can't you tell me if HTC are working on a fix /if it is a 'recognised' problem and here is their last reply....

Hi, Thanks for your email. Regarding - Weather widget Htc are aware of the problem and are working on a fix, i am not allowed to give out any release dates for legal reasons, unfortunatly you need to just keep checking the website for any updates available, have you tried to fix the problem yourself, if so what have you tried so far? Thanks for contacting HTC. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again. Best regards, HTC

Lol - what a lame reply. "Have you tried to fix the problem yourself?". Erm...no, I didn't make the phone or the software that runs on it!

It really is a very poor show from HTC and the mobile phone providers who are not interested in fixing any issues either.

At last something positive to day about the weather widget.

I've always rather liked the windscreen wiper when it's raining. On Saturday we had a lightening storm forecast.

The animation on the Desire home screen with the lightening bolts was fantastic.

I can't wait for a blizzard!!!

I wonder how many variations there are such as wiper , fog , sunny, lightening etc.

I really hope it has sleet, snow and blizzard ..... you never know it may even have tornado and monsoon!

Menu - All Apps - Weather - menu - demo

YAY !!

Well done ....... thanks for that.

(No tornado ......... shame):D

Also the "demo" of Thunderstorms doesn't do justice to the lightening that flashes down the screen.

Legal reasons? PMSL.

So does this mean they're looking to ditch accuweather and its getting legal between the 2 of them?

So i guess no fix yet,Whats made me mad is my partner came round tonite for me to setup her wildfire as it came today, set it up and it came with where with live etc,I have the desire and mine has always said United Kingdom its never found my location, don,t understand how the wildfire can and my desire don,t,must admit she found it funny after me taking the mick that she had a pretend desire and tbh its a good phone and atleast her weather works..

My weather widget was iffy before I went on holiday 4 weeks ago, since getting back its still telling me i'm on holiday (I wish ;)) and hasn't changed at all. At least I know what the weather is doing 500 miles away!. I've also noticed that the google home page on the browser is unable to find location, I guess its connected somehow?

Did it occur to any of you this is a bug of the weather app? Cause it is. And it's been known for more than half of a year. Maybe the Sense UI and the weather app on Froyo will be OK.

Where has this bug been discussed over the last 6 months? I haven't come across this.

Haven't people posted in this thread that it's still a problem with Android 2.2?

I missed this thread and created a new one... oops..

Same problem.. on T-Mobile

Had the Desire for a few months, no problems at all. Went away to Bournemouth for a couple of days. Come back to Maidstone and the widget is permenantly stuck on United Kingdom. Even after going for a long drive today, the location never changed... :(
