Help HTC Weather Widget broken???

Same here don't know why people are mentioning providers has nothing to do with that as my phone is unlocked and unbranded as it came....

...... don't know why people are mentioning providers ......

Because we were trying to establish if the problem was isolated to a particular provider - but, because people declared their provider, we now know it is not.

I have emailed HTC to ask for advice and sent a link to this forum thread.

I wonder how good their response will be ?:D

Hopefully HTC will know what the problem is and be working on it as we speak.

Hmphhh that's not helpful is it

I covered quite a wide area today and my weather widget didn't work as it used to. It was showing the nearest large towns, which were up to 10 miles away from where I was, but no weather. It didn't matter how many times I refreshed it said no weather data available.

Upon returning home I have weather information again but the location is back to just 'United Kingdom' :(

They must have done something because it has worked perfectly for over three months up until the last few days.

Well HTC's response today was a factory reset. Yeah, balls will it!

That's a very worrying response. It tends to indicate that the advice came from someone who a) Does not understand the problem and has given a stock answer akin to switch it off and on again and b) Has no interest or ability to carrying out any sort of technical evaluation of the problem.

I had expected more from HTC ...... I await a response to my enquiry with bated breath.

......... and no ..........I won't be doing a factory reset.

Well HTC's response today was a factory reset. Yeah, balls will it!

A factory reset cant be the answer as its affecting so many people. I could understand if it was an app interfering with it, that would maybe apply if it was a couple of people. But it is more than that.

The widget seems to be a law unto itself at the moment. This morning I only have 'Current location' and no weather at all no matter what I try.

I've checked and treble checked all my settings, constantly refreshed and removed and re-added the widget several times. Nothing works.

I just don't get how the widget can work perfectly for months and then just stop

I stopped using the widget. I haven't had any major issues with it recently, but it does seem to occasionally go a bit funny and decide that it can't get any weather info from my location, or show the sun in the middle of the night.

I'd already bought 'weatherbug elite' and, although it doesn't look as good, I've found the weatherbug widget to be far more accurate and reliable.

seems to me that it's not the phone, it can only display the data it receives and if it doesn't get the data then it can't display anything. I think HTC's advice is a catch all "turn it off and on again" type response.

the location is clearly picked up from the masts (presumably they have some basic data on where they are situated) but the weather has to come from somewhere else, so if it can't tie the location to any weather, it can't display anything.

My "current location" changes depending on which side of the building I work in I am standing in! The weather isn't going to be that different in either place. So I've changed mine; instead on my current location it shows the city I live in, which to be fair is fine. It's only a nice looking bit of fun after all.

Yay!

Reply from HTC

Thank you for contacting us. In regards to the weather app, I can help you with that. We are investigating what has been changed on the weather provider's database, and we hope to have a fix soon. I Trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required. Thank you for contacting HTC

Result ......... I guess :D

That sounds more promising. I am going to contact them about it and see what they say.

Although I still have just 'Current Location' today rather than the 'United Kingdom' issue I've been getting for the past few days.

Yeah, sounding very much like an update somewhere in the chain that's rippled through with undesirable (groan) side effects

Just recieved this email from HTC !!!

"Thank you for contacting HTC. In regards to your problem with the weather widget not showing the correct location, this is something I can help you with. Please permit me to explain how in a nutshell this works so you can have a better understanding of the way the weather widget works if you do not know already. The phone sends request for data out to the Internet Provider. The IP then sends the information request to the Geo tag of that provider. This then gets directed to the ACU weather server which has the temperatures and other data readily available. The information it finds that gets sent back along the communication line to your phone only if the server can recognise the location. If it can not, it will send an error or ‘no data available’ message. Have you tried the original weather widget which came on the phone or used a different widget from the Market Place? To be honest I would not think there would be no difference in the outcome, but for troubleshooting purposes it’s always worth a try. Ultimately it is at the IP (Internet Provider)’s end to be able to get the communication. I would advise that this is the point of contact to investigate if your phone is able to work in every other function. If there is anything else we can help you with, please let us know. Thank you for contacting HTC."

I think this incorrect as I work with 4 other people with HTC Desires I am on T-Mobile 1 friend on O2 another on Orange another on Virgin. All are getting the wrong info at home and work.

Having tried other weather widgets, they seem to work fine. Looks like I might have to switch to a third party app for the time being.

I did try another widget from the market and this managed to locate me without any problems, but I did not like the weather animations as much as the HTC one.

HTC are still telling me to factory reset!

Can those who've contacted HTC and been told they're looking into it send me ny pm the case number and agent that sent it so I can put the one I'm speaking to straight!

I too am suffering this affliction, i emailed accuweather today and awaiting response will post any info i get here ;-)
