HTC Weather Widget

My wifes Eris was doing exactly this and mine wasn't. When I first got mine I accidentally deleted the widget and had to add it again. I haven't had a problem with it all. I just removed the wifes clock widget then added it and things seem to be fine now.

I also had this issue. I think switching your home scene may have something to do with it. I deleted and reinstalled the widget and it seems to update now.

My Clock/Weather widget wasn't working worth a hoot either. would'nt update correctly.

Ditched it and went with individual flip clock and weather bug

with the latest upgrade to 2.1 on my eris a few weeks ago, the HTC weather widget with the flip clock now updates on the home screen but i still have to force the weather to update, even though i set the update frequency to 1 hour. also, there seems to be no way to get weather for any location in the state of maine (or vt, or nh for that matter). augusta (the capital) only yield augusta, ga; portland only yields oregon, bar harbor, waterville, belgrade lakes... no results found. it's very frustrating. i know maine is a sparsely populated state, but i go there and want weather updates!

I am having the same problem with adding cities/locations. Many cities (let alone smaller towns) simply aren't listed any longer. Strangely, all the locations I've been trying to add were available and worked fine on my phone before I did the OTA 2.1 update. I did the factory reset today to get the HTC weather app to stop force closing (annoying product of the 2.1 update), which seemed to work; but now I can't add any of the locations where I'd like to regularly check weather. Very frustrating.

Previous poster mentioned that "background data" needs to be on for the HTC weather widget to work. I'm not sure what that means exactly. I've had my mobile network on though if that is what's being referenced.

Yes, I know there are other weather apps out there, but I really like the HTC one without the ads, or having to launch another app.

Any help out there?

ok people, try this....

1. go to Menu -> settings -> accounts & sync.

2. check if "background data" is selected. if it isnt, select it.

3. underneath that where it says "manage accounts", select "weather"

4. Under "data and sync" make sure the box is checked.

5. Under "General Settings" set the frequency and temp. scale. (the more frequent it updates, the more juice you use).

6. back out to your settings again.

7. Go to "applications" and select "manage applications".

8. once it loads, look for the "Weather" apps, go into them and clear hit "clear data."

9. Go back to your home screen and press under the clock where the weather is supposed to be.

10. hit menu -> settings. Select "update automatically ", back out then hit the refresh button in the lower left corner of the screen.

If this doesn't resolve your problems, nothing else will and your phone is just not destined to show the weather. Sorry.

Thank you for the detailed instructions Rick. I appreciate it. I gave it a try and still no luck.

The phone itself seems to be working fine, as well the application itself. Rather, it seems that the database of available towns & cities has been cut down to a mere fraction of what was previously available. Major US cities are altogether absent. I don't understand that, especially since they were there and working before. [sigh]

Oh well.

Thanks rick311! Under "Accounts and Sync" settings I had "Auto-sync" unchecked. So even though I went to the settings in the weather widget and checked the box to sync automatically it didn't do anything, and when I went back to the widget settings it was always un-checked. Looks like it's working good now!

Hi, I am using Xperia X10, and I have installed the Fancy Widget. It has a big digital clock on my home screen, but I do not find the weather, as I saw in the screenshot. How can I get the weather too with Sun & Moon displyaing accordingly? Any hope for Android 1.6 Xperia?

I've got two 1x2 Weatherbug widgets set up (home and vacation home). They LOOK awesome, but they don't update unless I give them a press and Refresh them.

Am I missing something? Can I get these puppies to auto-refresh?

Just curious, what is your awake time? (settings-->about phone).

Thanks.

Well, i canned my usage of the HTC weather widget because it (or possibly something else) caused my 2.1 OTA to have the 100% awake time problem, or so i thought. (Yes, I've done the factory reset since upgrading). And even possibly contribute to the silent bug, (though i cannot say for sure that this is the case.

Also it might overlap with this other "Network Monitor" app that as of now can keep the phone awake too. So with canning my usage of those 2 things (network monitor definately does the 100% time at least as of now on my phone), i seem to be having a much more stable phone with less issues. Interesting eh?

Now I use weatherbug, and it seems to work better.

Have you tried going into the weatherbug prefs and setting the update interval?

I don't know if this was pointed to my question or not, but . . .

I have Enable Updates checked, Update Interval set to 1 hour, Battery Monitoring checked, and the Low Battery Level set to 30%.

My only thought is this: Since my phone has dipped below 30% and been recharged several times since I moved the two locational widgets to my screen (did this two days ago), I haven't yet rebooted. It may be possible that WeatherBug stops updating altogether when I dip below 30% and won't update regardless of whether I charge or not. I doubt it though, because that would screw everyone's notifications up (I know a lot of people prefer the temperature on the Status Bar).

Any thoughts?

I had the same problem and I had to menu>settings>date and time to turn the automatic time off, the location changed and I went back in and turn the automatic date/time back on. It was frustrating to say the least.

I was having incorrect weather as well. As odd as it sounds I pulled the battery and put it back in. It seemed to be accurate after that. No rhyme or reason and maybe it's just coincedence but worked for me.

Stop trying stupid ways..... here is the solution.
1 open setings
2 application
3 manage running application
4 find all clock applications and force close them
5 find all weather applications clear them then force close
6 exit
7 tap on weather widget
8 refresh and enjoy

Did this on my inspire 4G worked perfect.

I'll stop right here and point out that on the 2.1 based Eris there is no "manage running applications". That setting started in Froyo.

Anyone who knows where the HTC weather app gets it's data from? The different weather forecasts on TV have somewhat different predictions, so it'd be nice to know. I am following a company which checks the accuracy of various weather forecasts (sees what they've predicted contrary to what happened).

I was having a similar issue with the weather widget (clock and weather combination widget) on my Incredible 2. It worked fine until I visited another city that's approximately 50 or so miles from my hometown. Upon visiting this city and leaving to return home, my weather/clock widget simply showed my state as my location and not my city. After deleting the widget from the homepage and restarting the phone several times, I then turned my Wi-Fi off, deleted the widget from the home page, and restarted the phone. With 3G on, I added the weather/clock widget back to the homepage and voila! It works.
