Help HTC Wildfire keypad getting in the way, what am I doing wrong?

Today my wife upgraded to the HTC Wildfire - so far it's great, but I seem to have come across a small problem, and wondered if anyone had any advice please?

When typing status update, or email on facebook app, or being online through hotmail, gmail, or any other site where you are typing a lot, or where you have username on one line, and password on the other, the keypad seems to be massive, and gets in the way so you can't see what you're typing?

You should be able to see the text you are typing just above the keyboard, When you have finished that section press the back button to hide the keyboard and have the screen back for your app or webpage
