There are several methods to free up some memory on your phone. The most obvious and easiest is to delete those apps that you don't use or use infrequently. Another thing you can do is to clear the caches of the apps that store a good bit of data on your phone. Maps are usually a big memory consumer as well as weather and the browsers in general. Just go to menu>settings>applications>manage applications and tap on the 'all' tab. You can sort them by size. If you tap on the specific app you can see the usage stats for cache, data and the app itself.
If you are feeling a bit more adventurous, you can set the default install location for apps directly to the SD card. This will not only install future apps to the sd card, but it will allow you to move others that Apps2sd couldn't. No rooting required.
Keep in mind that the Wildfire S is a midrange phone with limited resources.
